Tom Coughlin's coaching career isn't over just yet, and there's at least a chance it could continue in a familiar place.

Sources told FOX Sports on Saturday that the Giants have granted permission to the Eagles to speak to Coughlin. The interview is slated for Monday.

Sources in the Giants organization said Friday they expected Coughlin to speak to the Eagles about their coaching vacancy. The sources said the Eagles are interested in Coughlin's services, which jibes with a report from FOX 5 in New York on Friday night that stated the Eagles requested permission from the Giants to speak with Coughlin.

Why would the Gaints have to give them permission? Coughlin left the Giants and is free to go wherever he wants.

He's still technically under contract. At least that's what I read somewhere.

Weird

Yeah since he resigned with a year left on his deal, NY technically would still hold his rights for the next year. But it would be pretty bad form to deny a guy who brought you two titles the chance to interview elsewhere, so I think it's mostly just a formality that they are giving permission.

That is also in the article I posted. He still had one year left on his contract, so does that indicate he resigned rather than getting fired?

I think so

The impression I got was it was more of a forced resignation out of respect for the SuperBowls.
The fact he might take the Eagles job probably suggests he didn't want to retire. We'll see if he accepts the interview.
