Super happy.

The worst case is that we have to play a third stringer against Baltimore, we lose, Pitt wins, the Jets lose, and we have to run out a third stringer against Pittsburgh.

I thought McCarron balled out last night.

He was clutch on third and long, made good decisions, nice deep ball threat also. But what happened to him is what happens to most young qbs playing a talented pass rush, eventually they got to him. Then that last play was just a bit tragic

You do have a great point. It was a tale of two halves and it looked like Oz and AJ switched bodies in both halves. Once the pass rush got them there was nothing either could do.

Not if they decide they would rather let Dalton walk.

Definitely although that could backfire ala Brees/Rivers scenario if Dalton goes on to win a championship before AJ. However, in this case i think AJ might actually be better if given more time on the field. Some of the throws he was making were right on the money and only where the receiver could catch them. I was impressed.

I think they could, essentially, be the same QB. Dalton had been having a career year for sure, but outside of this year he has been above average. Not great, sometimes not even good enough to get it done, but better than any other alternatives out there. I think AJ can be that, if not a little better, and he doesn't cost 17 million a year at this point. Maybe free up some cap space with a cheap QB for a few years and beef up some other areas.

I don't know, I'm no GM, thankfully, but I could see a scenario where the team decides to see what pieces they can get for Dalton and ride with AJ.

I suppose anything is possible. Dalton had a really strong campaign this season, as well as his rookie year. He had a decent sophomore season, one year with a lot of picks but a lot of TD's, and last year he was not very good. This year he was a borderline top five QB. It was a weird season for QB's...Rodgers started strong but he's struggling (not his fault) Big Ben has had some great games, but he was ass against us the first game, and he was bad against Baltimore (what?). Wilson was playing poorly for quite some time, now he's on fire. It's a season where the landscape is unique. Regardless, he was really good, and had strong games against some nice defenses. The mental mistakes were few and far between.

I do not expect him to be as good. Ever. It's a career season for a reason. But I also don't think he's going to revert back to last season, either. That's going to put him around a borderline top ten QB.

McCarron fell to the fifth round. I suspect if the draft were done all over again he would be taken in the third round, maybe the second. He doesn't have a great arm, but he has a good one. He can throw the deep ball well because his mechanics are pretty sound. He has demonstrated some intellect: he can look off DB's, he slides around in the pocket pretty well for a young guy, he has, and he was instructing the players around the LOS really well.

But, he's not very mobile, he's not a larger QB who can take more damage, the flaws are obvious. Dalton is pretty mobile, we call designed runs for him, and he does roll out really well. Ironically Dalton would fit nicely in a Kubiak scheme.

In order for Dalton to be usurped, he would probably have to be hurt and miss more games. On the other hand, maybe if McCarron starts in the playoffs and busts that ass, maybe then he's our guy. I'm with Dalton, both as a player and as a projection of who the long term guy is.

I think he is showing a lot of potential and I think a team will come knocking, but I don't think he has shown enough yet that a team, even the Bengals, will sell the farm on him being the guy.

Not yet.

I could see a team offer a 2nd round pick and bring him in to compete and see what happens.

No way I see Bengals send Dalton packing on such a small resume from McCarron.

I know what you mean. I think part of it is that for McCarron to play pretty well against that defense, in a big game, it is impressive. I also think a lot of people on the board were just trying to console me after my team managed to take not just the second half off, but an extra quarter off as well. :D

I think both qb's played well. I was impressed with McCarron because I had a negative opinion of his FB iq previously.

I honestly don't know how people can not be impressed with how Brock played considering how bad out offensive line is and how good the Bengals d is.

The Bengals' defense is a pretty strong unit. The secondary was close to full strength, and with the guys out there it was still a very fine unit. The defensive line fell off, Atkins' sickle cell trait really seemed to show up in the second half, but you guys picked up the blitzes and managed to stop Dunlap. Brock figured out our zone looks, and he stopped holding onto the ball as much in the second half. He got better, and it helped spring the big TD run that Anderson had.

He was also playing on MNF, too. Yeah, my team's defense is not equivalent to the 'Hawks two years ago, or the 2000 Ravens. But I don't think there are ten better defenses in the league.
