Broncos have released C Gino Gradkowski. #9news #9sports

#Broncos cut Montee Ball and Gino Gradkowski to make room for waiver claims. So another running back available.

Writing was on the wall when Hillman responded positively to coaching change, while Montee Ball still played like he was on scholarship. Shame Montee never took off here the way we had hoped.

Of Elway's 16 first- and second-day picks, Montee Ball is the only one to be waived.

No. CJ is in his 3rd year(I think) and looks absolutely capable. RBs don't go in round 1 anymore unless they're very special. We're not wasting a 1st on a RB.

I mentioned that in the other thread. He'd be an insurance policy if anyone gets hurt

This. I'm a little surprised we waived Ball, not because he's been doing well because he hasn't, but to sign another project TE/FB. Does anyone know if this Henry guy can play?

In a run often system, the RBs do get more wear and tear. I'll be totally surprised if we roll with only 3 RBs. Hillman, although he's seemed to find his stride, isn't exactly built for the pounding of a 16 game season. If CJ gets dinged, we're looking very thin at a feature position in this offense.

James Ferentz?

I guess no Broncos ZBS is complete without a pumped up fullback.

James Ferentz was a three-year starter at Iowa at center. I don't think he's ever played fullback.

That's because he's pumped up FB playing OL at Iowa too.

Same here but then again they are keeping nine linebackers and three tight ends and one tight end/fullback.

Lol. I figured.

I don't know a whole lot about him. He reminds me off Jack Doyle, who was with the Colts. I'm not sure if he's still there. Pretty average all around.

He certainly earned it. 16 for 27 against the lowest level of competition he will face. Dude is done and said as much.

Ball's Twitter still says "It's now or never" from before the game. Cmon man..."blessed" is the one. Where's your publicist?

always wanted Lacy instead, but sucks to see montee end up like this.

Denver should sign Steven Jackson for a power back for short yardage situations. Old, but still can run people over and is superb in pass protection.

Yeah, but I think we have 55 guys since TJ and Wolfe don't count for now. I'd say we will get rid of him or Casey soon. Just my opinion. He could be a good special teams player too. We'll see.

After Ward is back, I'd think Marsh is a possible cut but we shall see

I'm confused by our LB situation because I have no clue who plays what position. We need a lot of LBs if we are running a 3-4. But I see Ray and Ware listed as DEs

The Broncos gave the only helmet that would fit Jackson to Wes Welker 2 years ago.

Why? Because he played for the Lambs?

There's a reason he's not on a team right now and it's not because he's awesome.

Lol if we're going to kick the tires on old ass RBs then I think Willis McGahee wants a tryout.

It's dumb to think that a runningback with the kind mileage that Jackson has on his body could help the Broncos in any way, shape, or form. :geezer:

I thought there was good chance that at least one of the tight ends beyond Daniels and Casey would make the team.

We had also drafted Heuerman, don't forget. I could see how an undrafted TE would look at our situation and think he had a better chance elsewhere

from article:

Ball was a major disappointment in his two years with the Denver Broncos. After rushing for 559 yards and four touchdowns in his first season, he followed up with just 172 yards and one touchdown on the ground in 2014. He also averaged just 3.1 yards per carry.

The weird thing is that at camp he looked really good and was chasing CJ for that # 2 spot. He said he was feeling better than he had in a long time and was blocking great. This feels more mental than physical. Whatever is going on with him I hope a new place gets him back on track.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- When the Denver Broncos made the decision to waive Montee Ball, the prevailing wisdom was because Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson has passed him on the depth chart.

And while that was indeed the case as both Hillman and Thompson put together high-quality training camps, turns out the Broncos had their eye on a practice squad decision as well. In short, the Broncos wanted the ability to have four running backs on site at their suburban Denver complex.

So, initially the Broncos kept Ball on the 53-man roster, as the team's No. 4 back behind C.J. Anderson, Hillman and Thompson, when the cuts were made Saturday. Kapri Bibbs, a running back whose potential the Broncos believe in and who had spent most of the 2014 season on the team's practice squad, had been waived in the cut to 53 players.

But when Bibbs cleared waivers Sunday and the Broncos were able to bring him back on their practice squad, where he would still be in the meetings and on the practice field with the team every day, that was the tipping point for Ball's departure.
