Manning finally going to play?

Which player on the bubble are you most impressed with so far?

Let's go backups!

Shaq Barrett has been the bubble player impressing me the most. WTF. He looked like a monster last week. Isn't this just a warm body backup from Colorado? And Bennie Fowler obviously.

Unimpressed : Schofield. Caldwell.

On a more topic related note. My wife and I will be attending the game. Our tickets are one row off the field behind the Broncos bench the left 40 yard line looking mat the field. I'm undecided on jersey section yet but it'll either be my new blue DT jersey or my orange 1994 Atwater jersey. My wife will be in a blue JJ Watt jersey.

Houstons field is an abomination!

“We actually said that the day before (the injury). If somebody was running right here and (they) plant, their ACL or MCL is gone just because of how deep the holes are,” Swearinger said.

Apparently I was wrong that they have field turf. Sorry about that.

Other than Von getting hurt there a couple of seasons ago I had not heard that they were have that much trouble with the turf.

After SR said they have real turf I went to check it out and while I was looking around I saw some comments that Andrea Johnson had bee hurt on that turf twice. Also it was installed in 2010 according to the video I saw and if that's the case I wonder what they had before that.

As Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak brings his new team into the stadium where he used to coach Saturday night in Houston for the Broncos-Texans preseason game, there are some things the Broncos need to check off the to-do list.

So, a little W2W4:

Welcome back: The Broncos took a decidedly judicious approach in how they divvied up playing time in the preseason opener in Seattle last week, but this time around things will look at lot more familiar with quarterback Peyton Manning set to make his first game-day appearance in the new offense. While the Broncos won’t show a great deal of their hand in the game, Manning has looked sharp throughout training camp and the Broncos’ plan to build rest days into his schedule has been beneficial, at least as the team has worked its way through August. Look for Manning to kick the tires on as much as he can in terms of lining up under center, in the shotgun and perhaps even in the pistol, depending on how things go in the game. Manning, who has said he's hoping for some kind of opportunity to run a two-minute drill, will play at least a quarter and perhaps as much as a half.

HOUSTON -- Three things to watch as the Broncos face the Houston Texans in the second preseason game at NRG Stadium on Saturday:

1. PEYTON MANNING'S FIRST GAME IN THE NEW SCHEME.

The sight of Manning under center, executing play-action and on the move has become more frequent during practices since July 31. Now he gets to execute this offense for the first time -- and with Demaryius Thomas as a target, since the sixth-year wide receiver is expected to make his 2015 preseason debut after sitting out last week.

But at least as many eyes will be on the offensive line, particularly if Houston's über-athletic, often-unblockable J.J. Watt plays.

Oz with a deep ball. Defenses on both sides solid but not overly impressive.

The offense looked good, other than miscommunication between Norwood and Manning. They were working Norwood with the 1's presumably because Sanders didn't play.

The biggest issue was the turnovers. They killed every drive.

I like the way they were mixing the hurry up in with west coast. I think this offense is going to be deadly.

Our line looks to be improving. The biggest issue seems to be LG and LT. My biggest concern is LG.

I'm not surprised the offense sputtered with Manning in starting line up but I'm not worried it will eventually work itself out. I'm not worried about the left side of line. I know Watt wasn't in the line up but they still did a descent job of protecting Manning's blindside.

I don't usually don't make predictions but I'll be floored if Shaq Barrett doesn't make the team. He's definitely getting himself noticed in the way.

Quarterback Peyton Manning saw some good, and some bad in his first time under center this season.

After sitting out the first game of the preseason to stay fresh, Peyton Manning made his 2015 debut Saturday night in the Broncos’ 14-10 win over the Texans in NRG Stadium.

Manning saw action in four series in the first and part of the second quarter, before he was pulled from the remainder of the game.

On the night, Manning went 8-for-14 for 52 yards. While his results weren’t what he may have wanted, he saw the preseason game for what it needed to be: an opportunity for the offense to put their efforts on the practice field into action.

HOUSTON — There was apprehension about and anxiety over a fragile Peyton Manning lining up for the first time in contact circumstances behind three-fifths of an offensive line that politely could be termed the Baby Bloomers, the Toddler Trio, the Kiddie Korps.

Rather than wear a white uniform, the 39-year-old quarterback could have shown up in a white wedding dress.

Peyton wasn't sacked, knocked down or touched in anger Saturday night. His outfit wasn't even wrinkled. He might have walked down an aisle early in the second quarter after retiring to the sideline for the rest of the evening.

Thanks to his young knights, Manning survived very nicely indeed in the Broncos' 14-10 victory.

Ty Sambrailo, Max Garcia and Matt Paradis did not play like Enfants Terribles.

I purposefully avoided this thread as I was out last night and just got around to watching the game tonight. A few thoughts I had:

Seemed like the first team offense was working at a faster pace with Manning in there than the same situation last week with Brock. Seemingly more passes overall and less huddling. DT should've had that ball on the first drive but otherwise looked like his old self. Daniels seems to be a good Manning security blanket already - it's like they've been playing together for years. First team OL looked pretty good on first watch, though there were some bad penalties (in general as well; pretty sloppy game and I hope Kubiak addresses that in practice this week).

Hillman looks downright good in this offense. He's playing with confidence and looks like he has some burst. Thompson was solid in there as well, so really, only Ball didn't do anything to stand out. Hillman appears to have quietly taken over the #2 RB depth chart spot, based on how and when he was used compared to Ball.

A little choppier game for Osweiler, but overall, pretty well done. The pick six ... eh, it happens. I'm more annoyed by the decision there, since it looked like the intended receiver was double covered even if the ball got through. The TD pass to Caldwell was a thing of beauty, however.

On defense, Marshall looks like he's picking up where he left off - he was around the ball on almost every play when he was in there. Kilgo also passed the eye test for me. As for the kickers, McManus' kick offs were wonderful. Not much else to go on, since there wasn't even a FG attempt.

Siemian couldn't lead that drive against a first team defense, but I'm happy for him that he got it done in that situation. Leading a 92 yard TD drive in crunch time is tough no matter who's out there. Kudos to him.

G_Money
08-23-2015, 10:14 PM
Siemian looked much calmer and in control of the offense than Oz looked his first couple years. He was decisive, moved well in the pocket, showed off his arm and had a good touch too. I loved the decisiveness most of all. See open receiver, hit open receiver - in the helmet if necessary. I like him better than Dysert, but that doesn't mean much. If we're looking for someone to groom to back up Oz, then Siemian looks good for that role.

What I find interesting is if we're looking for someone to replace Oz if Manning plays a couple more years and we can't talk Oz into sticking around til the end. We're up against an Aaron Rodgers / Brett Favre situation if Manning wants to keep playing after next year. At some point the student will want to show he can play. If Oz is Rodgers, then we want him to play for us. If he's Ryan Mallett, then we don't care. Sieman is making a nice case for earning a roster spot, though - we may have to hide him in the next few games if we want him on the practice squad - and even now it might be too late. Not every team has even a good backup, and some will carry 3 QBs.

I've dogged Hillman for a while, but he too has been very decisive this pre-season. Hitting holes, making cuts... playing with intent. I'm glad to see it. He can definitely stay and be a nice part of what we're trying to do.

And the D looks beastly, I'm not gonna lie. They're coasting and still making tons of plays. When we hit full speed I look foward to the results.

Manning passed a bunch in the early going, but we wanted him to get into a little rhythm. After not playing last week I expected that. It does look like our hurry up offense will be all Manning and the rest of the stuff will be mostly Kubes. That's good. Manning is one of the greatest hurry-up QBs of all time, and it will give us a way to throw two versions of the offense at an opponent. It can only help - assuming all the kids on offense know where to be.

The rookies on the OL don't look bad. I really hope that continues. OL is still the key to the season for me. Everything else appears to be in good shape.

Fingers crossed.

There is much be excited about. The team has areas that are going to be a work in progress but overall they have looked pretty good. It is preseason so I try not to get to hyped up but it's getting harder especially when I look at the defensive side of the ball. It won't be shock if the offense isn't hitting on all four cylinders at the season opener but right now it's looking like we have a defense that can carry the team while the offense gets everything worked out.
