Less than 24 hours after signing his new five-year, $70 million contract with the Broncos, Demaryius Thomas set lofty goals for his future in Denver. He wants records. Three in particular: The NFL's single-season marks in receptions (143), yards (1,964) and touchdowns (23), held by Marvin Harrison, Calvin Johnson and Randy Moss, respectively.

Rod Smith knows a few things about records. The Broncos Ring of Famer holds franchise records in career receptions (849), yards (11,389) and touchdowns (68).

Smith also played under coach Gary Kubiak, when Kubiak was the Broncos' offensive coordinator and helped Denver to back-to-back Super Bowl victories, in 1998 and '99. Smith knows the system and he knows how to succeed in the system. Which is why he believes Thomas' goals — while admirable — may not be feasible in Kubiak's offense, which relies on a more balanced attack.

Rod is obviously correct about the balance but lets also remember he also lead the League in receptions and he did have two seasons where he had double digit touchdowns. So I have no doubt that Thomas is going to put up very good numbers in this offense.
