View Full Version : Build the best football team using only players with the same first names.

I stole it from twitter which stole it from somewhere else.
Anyways. The title speaks. Build the best team possible using only players with the same first name.
For example.
Steve Young QB
Steve Sewell RB
Steve Largent WR
etc
Edit: I should be more clear. You build your own team. Pick any name. If Denbronx wants to use John and Pudge wants to use John, so be it. Just pick a first name and build a team of players with that first name.

Wait...do we all take turns picking one name or do we have to build the whole team ourselves?

You, pick a first name. Build your own team. Any person can pick any first name. The only rule is that all players must have the same first name.

This one was hard. I need to replace a couple of players, but it could win games. I feel like Johnny Knox had high upside before his career ending injury and Elway could definitely work around the one weak link on the offensive line.

The O Line was tough. I tried to pick people that were somewhat recent, but there aren't that many Pat(rick)s in the nfl.

I tried to use John also, but I have mostly the same players.
I'd switch John Henry Johnson to FB and add John McNally as a #2 RB. John Taylor was a good WR. I might take out Cyprien and add in Johnny Robinson (an old Safety).

If anyone wants to seriously do this thread, here are two sites you can use:

That's how I did my team. I also looked up a list of most common male names in the 70s and 80s to try to find the teams with the most players. I couldn't even field half a team of players I've heard of using the #2 and #3 most common names, so I gave up. This is a very hard exercise.

The all "unique" name team using only players whose first names are only seen once in NFL history. This one actually was really hard to make. King Dunlap? Nope. A guy named King Simmons played in 1987. And for QB, Y.A. Tittle was the only player I could even find with a unique name.
QB - Y.A. Tittle
RB - LaDainian Tomlinson
RB2 - Tiki Barber
FB- Bronko Nagurski
WR- Demaryius Thomas
WR- Muhsin Muhammad
TE1- Martellus Bennett
TE2- Marcedes Lewis
LT - D'Brickashaw Ferguson
G - Jahri Evans
C - Dermontti Dawson
G - Revie Sorey
RT - La'el Collins
DT - Haloti Ngata
DT - Ndamukong Suh
DE- Barkevious Mingo
DE- Osi Umenyiora
LB- Lavonte David
LB- Jerod Mayo
LB-Vontaze Burfict
CB- Aeneas Williams
CB- Ronde Barber
(Champ's real name is Roland and Night Train's real name is Dick, otherwise these two would be here)
FS- Jairus Byrd
SS- Tyvon Branch

Let's see Lombardi win his trophy with this partially ragtag roster. "What the hell is going on out there!" will be our motto.
HC - Vince Lombardi
OC - Vince Lombardi
DC - Vince Tobin
QB - Vince Ferragamo
FB - Vinnie Yablonski
RB - Bo Jackson
RB - Vince Workman
TE - Vince Marrow
WR - Vincent Jackson
WR - Vincent Brisby
WR - Vince Mayle
T - Vinston Painter
G - Vince Manuwai
C - Vince Banonis
G - Vince Promuto
T - Vince Kowalski
LB - Vince Williams
LB - Vinny Ciurciu

LB - Vincent Brown
DE - Vincent Amey
DT - Vince Wilfork
DE - Vinny Curry
CB - Vincent Rey
CB -Vinnie Clark
SS - Vince Albritton
FS - Vince Newsome
P - Vincent Gamache
K - Vince Abbott
I took Vince Ferragamo because I think his potential with Lombardi is better than sensitive Vince Young and Testeverde. I do like our triplets on offense but I don't know 4/5 of these guys. Some played 2 years sparingly, some are still trying to make it in the NFL.
