Lancane’s Draft Day Mock Draft

Sorry, I am posting this a little late this year, had to undergo surgery on my shoulder and have not been much for typing as you could well imagine. Anyways I have been keeping apprised of the goings on with the Broncos, so here is my final mock draft for 2015.

Round 1: Eli Harold - OLB - Virginia
Denver could go offensive line, I think that is the consensus overall belief, and they could well go that route, especially if Andrus Peat falls to them, or if Cameron Erving or Jake Fisher become the best available. But I haven’t been on the same page, in fact I have been leaning toward Maxx Williams the Tight End from Minnesota till recently, word was the Broncos absolutely love him and when John Elway loves someone, well... But recently I heard that Denver will not pass up Harold if he is available and I believe he will be, he is considered a tremendous defender with a lot of upside but has a limited frame and it sounds like the Broncos really like the kid. With how hard they’ve begun to look at pass rushers, he gives them depth at the position and an eventual replacement to the aging Ware.

Round 2: T.J. Clemmings - Offensive Tackle - Pittsburgh
No way in hell right? There is a lot of talk right now that Clemmings is not as highly rated as many draftniks believe by Scouts and Personnel people around the league, in fact numerous scouts believe he could fall further, one scout said he could be there in the 3rd Round because he has a limited ceiling and is pretty much running on his laurels alone because of his limitations , rawness and the fact he looks the part of a right tackle rather then a left tackle as some have him ranked among those who are blindside blockers such as Fisher, Ogbuehi, Flowers, Peat and so on. As one Director of Personnel put it, why would I draft a right tackle when those who look to be solid left tackles are available? Others have him ranked higher and believe a team may well jump early, like Denver and recognize the concern. If this happened it would be a major win for the Broncos.

Round 3: Jesse James - Tight End - Penn State
No secret that this is my favorite Tight End in the draft. The Broncos never had a scheduled visit with James, but they were present at his Pro-Day which was good enough that some scouts had him leapfrog O’Leary and Kroft on their boards. He’s the ideal Tight End for Gary Kubiak’s offense being a dual threat.

Round 4 (COMP): Jake Ryan - Inside Linebacker - Michigan
Big, physical linebacker who moved inside and flourished, has that high motor that Denver covets in their linebackers. Considered a natural leader according to his coaches, has solid straight line speed and burst, could end up being a steal for the Broncos.

Round 5 (CHI): Tre McBride - Wide Receiver - William & Mary
Solid bodied Wide Receiver who has the ability to be physical, has descent hands and good breakaway and game speed. Can help on Special Teams and gives the Broncos needed depth at the Receiver position after the loss of Wes Welker and with the concerning issues arising with Pro-Bowler Demaryius Thomas.

Round 5: Angelo Blackson - Nose Tackle - Auburn
Space eating Nose Tackle that will add needed depth to a questionable position for the Broncos. Word is that Wade Phillips and Company love his attitude, athletic upside and sure tackling ability, he’ll have time to develop and would help in rotation.

Round 6: Trevor Siemian - Quarterback - Northwestern
Siemian has the typical NFL build, but hasn’t generated much draft buzz till recently. People will be surprised that Denver takes him here, but they won’t risk losing him to the other teams hot on his hills with a later pick. Solid arm, good footwork, great release and has played in various offensive systems.

Round 7 (COMP): Tory Slater - Defensive Lineman - West Georgia
Former Wide Receiver turned Defensive Lineman, has the physical attributes and raw talent to be a 3-4 Defensive End, needs time to develop which he can get in Denver.

Round 7(COMP): Takoby Cofield - Offensive Lineman - Duke
Gritty run blocker with good motor. Struggles on the outside and will likely move inside to the Guard position. Brings depth to a line in need, needs to be coached up and has some upside.

Round 7 (COMP): Aaron Ripkowski - Fullback - Oklahoma
Solid blocker with okay hands and can get tough yards. Not a great ball carrier but fits the bill everywhere else. He’ll compete but will likely end up on the practice squad for the season.

There you go, have fun and enjoy. I will try to jump on during the Draft, but it’s really painful to even type.

Go Broncos!!!

Having a dad who is a PSU alum and being from the area, I get my fill of their games and I have to be honest...i have absolutely NO idea what it is that has people enamored enough with Jesse James to consider him an option before the 5th or 6th round. Maybe it's his size...maybe it's the overall lack of TE talent this year...i don't know. But the kid is the icon of mediocrity.

I'll say it now. IF he vastly improves his blocking, he might have a chance making a team as a blocking TE. But I've just not seen anything that leads me to believe he'll ever become anything resembling a regular starter. I really just don't get what it is I'm not seeing.
