The Dodgers now have the highest payroll - $277,070,073. The Rockies 22nd highest - $100,601,130. I am surprised to see some of the teams who have a lesser payroll than the Rockies.

The dead cap money the Dodgers have is amazing.

What exactly is the dead cap money?

Major league contracts are guaranteed. That's money that's going to players who are no longer on the roster, but are still getting paid. The Dodgers are paying Matt Kemp to play against them this year.

The Dodgers' dead cap money is roughly equal to what the Astros spent in total salaries last year.

So MO, do think the Dbacks can remain a .500, + or - 1 game and 1 game only, with the 5th smallest payroll?

If the Rockies and Dbacks combined starting pitching rotations to find the best 5 SPs on both teams, it would still be a below average rotation.
