ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The special teams forces want to have a different feel about them this season. They want to make a bigger impression, not only on their opponents but on their teammates, as David Bruton Jr. detailed on Wednesday.

"We’re going to be attacking. We’re going to be downhill all the time, and a lot more enthusiastic on special team," he said.

That enthusiasm is something they're trying to build now in the meeting rooms to make a more cohesive passionate group that helps set a tone for the team.

Nowhere to go but up on special teams. Ours have been horrible for years.

I don't have time to pour over all of the stats right now, but last year the Broncos were 24th in kickoff return coverage and 29th in punt return coverage. I'm not real sure what you consider pretty good.

I always think being a special teams coach must be really easy.

Scenario one. Catch ball, run, with blockers towards the end zone.

Scenario two. Run towards man who just caught ball, stop him.

Scenario three. Opposition expecting scenario one or two - do something different.

I'm not sure about coaching, but I will tell you that from an officiating standpoint, if something weird is going to happen it's probably going to be in the kicking game.

I hear this type of quote every year. I never ever see a story where a coach says he's hoping his unit will be more passive next year.

I wasn't talking about last season. The two season prior to last season Denver had solid special teams.

Sorry Tex, but there's nothing special about those special teams. The only one above average was kickoff returns. Special Teams in the Fox era was a bust.

Something isn't right about those rankings for 2012 and 2013. Just to be clear I never said they were the best.

DeCamillis may not be Dave Toub but he is a qualified ST's coach, not just some dudes little brother, that can't hurt.

The Bears had the #1 kickoff coverage team in the NFL last season. 24th in punt coverage. That team didn't have near the talent that the Broncos have.
