More bargain hunting. He played four years for Arizona and two in SD before being released last week. Say goodbye to Nate Irving, I'd say

Wonder why only a one year contract?

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Seventh year linebacker Reggie Walker has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Broncos, the team announced on Thursday.

Walker spent the previous two seasons with the Chargers before becoming a street free agent. He started in six games in 2013 and played a total of 27 games for San Diego. He recorded 48 combined tackles in those two season (37 solo) and had 3.5 sacks, including three in 2013 and a forced fumble.

Prior to his stint in San Diego, Walker played four seasons as an Arizona Cardinal, where he played in 48 games, collecting 50 tackles.

LB Reggie Walker's 6 starts were in 2013. He got $50,000 signing bonus, $795K base with chance to make another $200K in play time.

Just depth, won't affect Irving ay all. LB is thin.

Much like our other FA, I think if they wanted to pay Irving, they would have by now. Unless his market is terrible and we re-sign him cheap.

DB, I don't know what happened to you. You used to be a great poster. Now you do nothing but whine. The guy is a backup that can play all of the linebacker positions and was a special teams captain for Arizona 2 years ago. That's a solid depth signing. Not every signing is going to be a starter. We need to build up special teams as well.

Probably roster flotsam. Nothing to get worked up over.

Like I said, whether related to this signing or not, Irving was on his way out.

I think I'd rather do nothing and take a chance on an UDFA than continue down this path. Same with Steven Johnson, a dime-a-dozen.

I was surprised we re-signed Johnson. There was a noticeable dropoff when he played last year.

Irving signs for 3 years, up to 9.25 million with Indy.

Signing a couple of guys to compete in training camp doesn't seem bad. Not like we gave them max deals and they cannot be cut if rookies out play them in camp.

Nate Irving, the Broncos' starting middle linebacker last season until he suffered a knee injury in the eighth game at New England, has agreed to terms on a contract with the Indianapolis Colts.

Despite the knee injury, Irving generated considerable interest from Arizona, Chicago and San Diego, but the Colts made the strongest commitment. The Colts entered this free agent market with the league's seventh-most payroll cap room at about $35 million.

With Wade Phillips, the Broncos' new defensive coordiantor, guiding a transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense, the Broncos' starting inside linebackers will be Danny Trevathan and Brandon Marshall with Corey Nelson, Todd Davis, Lamin Barrow, Steven Johnson and Reggie Walker serving as backups.

I love Marshall and Trevathan. But the rest of those guys don't exactly strike fear into the hearts of opposing offenses, right?

Guess that will be a wait and see once Phillips has his defense in place.

One aspect to the Salary Cap that a lot of folks miss is that it is only the top 40-or-so salaries that count against the cap. Guys who sign for the vet minimum probably aren't going to count for anything so it's very low risk.

By the way, the phrase "street free agent" always makes me think of a prostitute.

I hope and pray Danny T stays healthy, but I'm not holding my breath. That would be a bad ass pair of ilb's.

Letting Nate Irving walk to the Colts was a bad mistake. He's come into his own as a really good LB and his salary - 3 years, $9 million was not too much. I hate how the Colts are grabbing every player. They are going to be extremely scary this year and for the next few years.

The Broncos wanted to bring Irving back, but on a "prove it" deal. That was absurd. He already proved it when Von Miller went down in 2013.

Apparently though, they didn't even make him an offer.

The Broncos had some interest in bringing Irving back on a "make good" deal but never made a formal offer.

Top 51 salaries until start of regular season, I think, Top 51 for sure though.
