ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos have hired Mitch Tanney as director of football analytics, Executive Vice President of Football Operations/General Manager John Elway announced on Friday.
In an interview with ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold earlier this year, Elway said he wanted to embrace the analytical side more: "I'm a numbers guy. [...] I would say we understand it can be a tool and we're trying to develop what it will be and what it will do for us."
In Tanney's role with the team's newly created position, he will be responsible for developing methods to analyze data that supports evaluations and situational decisions made by the personnel staff and coaches.
