The Broncos took another step in their busy offseason Friday, tendering their three exclusive rights free agents: linebacker Brandon Marshall, tackle Paul Cornick and guard Ben Garland.

Marshall will receive $585,000 with Cornick and Garland at $510,000, minimum pay based on their credited NFL seasons. As exclusive rights free agents, it means what it implies: the players' rights belong to the Broncos. This amounts to a procedural move.

Marshall played at a Pro Bowl caliber level last season before injuring his foot against San Diego in November. He missed the final two regular-season games and was limited in the playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Marshall, who has turned from a practice squad star into an impact player, led the Broncos with 110 tackles, the second-most in the NFL among first-time starters. He is expected to play strongside linebacker in coordinator Wade Phillips' 3-4 defense.

Marshall is an exclusive FA this year and a restricted FA next offseason.

The Broncos tendered a $1.542 million salary to restricted free agent Tony Carter, according to an NFL source. The money is non-guaranteed and gives the Broncos a right of first refusal should other teams try to sign the backup cornerback.

On the cheap, but that kid infuriates me just about every time he is on the field.
