The NFL notified teams Wednesday that it expects this year's salary cap to be between $140 and $143 million, at least $1.5 million higher than projected, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The league had informed team executives at the owners meeting in December that the 2015 salary cap would be between $138.6 and $141.8 million. At the time, the NFL Players Association, in a memo, believed a "substantial increase" would be added to that amount.
The 2014 NFL salary cap was set at $133 million, up from $123 million the previous season.
