ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- With a new coaching staff, a quarterback facing a rather large decision and an exceedingly high-profile prospective free agent, it’s a good time to look at some important dates coming up on the Denver Broncos' calendar.

Tuesday: This is the first day for teams to designate franchise or transition players. Though teams don’t often do it on the first day that it’s allowed because it usually involves a player they are trying to negotiate a long-term deal with, it will bear watching for the Broncos. Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is expected to get the franchise tag, and the one-year, guaranteed deal that comes with it. That tag carried a price of $12.312 million last season for wide receivers, and will be higher this year. Again, it’s guaranteed the moment a player signs it.

Feb. 17-23: NFL Scouting combine in Indianapolis. Most of the draft’s top prospects are on hand. It will be attended by the Broncos' entire personnel, coaching and scouting staffs -- the first team event since all of the changes were made.
