December defines the grueling nature of the NFL season. The schedules shrink, but bumps and bruises increase. Entering Sunday’s game, the Broncos continue to deal with injuries to key players.

Julius Thomas began practice as a hopeful full participant, but spent time working through issues with his left ankle while talking to the training staff. The scene was similar to last week when he said he had good days, but not enough to be cleared to play.

Jacob Tamme and Wes Welker joined Thomas in limited duty. Tamme left Sunday’s game against the Chiefs briefly with an undisclosed injury. Welker played 57 of 83 plays in the Kansas City victory. Tamme saw time on 24 plays.

Definitely bummed to hear that about Thomas.

Sounds like he's still at least a week away. That's a pretty bad low ankle sprain.

#Broncos HC John Fox said Welker held out of practice because "team decision'' - but was simply veteran player getting a day off

Jeff Legwold @Jeff_Legwold · 3h

Also for #Broncos Aqib Talib practicing, moving well, Jacob Tamme not practicing and Kayvon Webster not practicing.

For #Broncos Julius Thomas taking part in practice, looked to be doing more than he did last week. Hillman/Ball working with strength coach.

No; he didn't elaborate. RT @MileHighReport: Any sense from Fox on the seriousness of DT's injury?

Demaryius Thomas "got stepped on" in practice & was limited with an ankle problem, Fox said.

Yeah, those things can really linger. Hopefully we don't try to rush him back at any point.

This late in the season, with everything in our court... its not about making the playoffs, but being sure players aren't nursing lingering problems for the playoffs. Giving the vets some extra time to heal those bruises is always a good thing, imo.

From today - time to get concerned about DT's ankle yet?

Demaryius Thomas and Jacob Tamme are out here, but only watching. In sweats and a jersey, no helmet. Wes Welker returned to practice.

1st round bye would be extremely nice. I forget sometimes how early we had our bye week this year, definitely didn't help.

Yeah... I want that first round bye as well, but not at the expense of keeping JT out of any games in post season. I personally don't think we get past NE, as we just aren't as good this year as last. But, I would much rather go into that match-up with all bullets available.

Having a bye in week 4 sucked ass. Terrible.

Also for #Broncos TE Jacob Tamme (ribs) not participating, J. Thomas is practicing again, moving well.

Jeff Legwold ‏@Jeff_Legwold 6m6 minutes ago

Also, Kayvon Webster not on field, Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman not practicing, working with strength coach.

On @DemaryiusT if it was real bad, they wouldn't allow him to be out walking around during practice, but he's limping a bit.

Cody Latimer left practice with concussion-like symptoms, Fox said. He added that Demaryius Thomas has a bruise and "will be fine."

Concussed at practice sucks.

As an aside, Latimer's route running must really be subpar.

Can't think of any other reason why he wouldn't put Caldwell on the bench.

We would be too bad off if JT came back and DT set out a week.

As much as Manning likes to practice, the veterans know their jobs by now and healing their bodies is more important than making every practice. As for Ball and Hillman, they can take as much time as they need.
