View Full Version : Broncos to don all-blue uniforms vs. 49ers at Mile High

Denver Native (Carol)

The Broncos will wear their alternate all-blue uniforms for their primetime game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

The game will be the Broncos' 13th in the "throwback" uniforms; they own a 8-4 record with the all-navy look.

PHOTOS: Broncos wearing blue jerseys with blue pants (view online on link)

The blue uniforms were the team's predominant home jersey from 1997-2011, before they returned to the traditional orange as their primary color in 2012.

The Broncos will revert back to the orange uniforms for their remaning four home games.

Unfortunately due to NFL rules we can't. Players have to wear the same helmet for every game of the season, so we'd be unable to do the full throwbacks since we couldn't use the helmets. We could put a sticker of the old logo on our current helmets, but it just wouldn't look right since the new helmet is a darker blue.

Because their helmet color didn't change, so they can simply put a new sticker over it.

Denver COULD wear their throwbacks, it would just look dumb since the helmet would be dark blue.

It's a safety thing apparently. They have to have their helmet specially fitted and approved by the league before the season, and that's the one they have to stick with.

I see. I guess I can't argue the safety aspect but it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to do 2 helmets, especially considering the money they'd make in return for more throwback sales.

I've never been a fan of the all blues so I'll admit that I might not be objective about it.

BroncoWave
10-13-2014, 09:11 PM
Yeah, I agree. I don't see why it would be so difficult to do a second helmet either. I guess I'll just trust that the brain experts they consulted in coming up with this rule. Stinks that it's gonna keep us from wearing our throwbacks though.

They are wearing this year's helmet and it clashes terribly.

Denver would have to wear the current helmet with the old uniform.

It's a stupid rule that has no basis in fact, IMO. Concussions aren't becoming more of a problem in college because they are wearing more and more helmets every year. It just has no basis in fact and ruins throwbacks and the possibility of throwbacks.

The Bears and Packers both do throwbacks by taking off the logo stickers on the current helmet.

Anti-Cowboys. I believe we debuted them the year we won our first SB though, and Elway retired after winning the second, so having championship-quality teams the whole time he wore the all-blue MIGHT have been a factor in why he never lost in them. t helped that we debuted them the year we won our first SB and he retired after we won our second. We lost all of 6 losses of those 39 games, and checking the location just now confirmed Elways statement: All 6 were on the road, so he's undefeated in all-blue—but he's also 13-6 in the white ones during those two seasons.

I don't mind the blue on blue. But the orange on blue, us awful. Seems like a bright on dark in your head, so it shouldn't be bad...but it really really is. Orange pants, should never make its way back to Denver. Keep that ugliness where it belongs, in Ohio.
Fair enough then.

I've always gotten a good feeling from the all-Blue uniforms. We'll see.
