With Hillman out, second-year back C.J. Anderson and rookie Juwan Thompson will back up starter Montee Ball. With Webster down, rookie Bradley Roby is expected to play in the nickel packages, along with starters Aqib Talib and Chris Harris. Veteran cornerback Tony Carter should also get more playing time.

I'd REALLY like to know what happened in Dallas, and don't buy the "illness" excuse for a moment.

It's ironic it happened in Dallas, because this team reminds me too much and often of the post-Johnson Cowboys under Switzer: Overloaded with talent on both sides of the ball, sabotaged by undisciplined swagger that led to lots of police blotter and losses to teams they should beat handily. I guess the good news is even Switzer managed to get a SB win with that unruly ubertalented team, even if he missed the first and only threepeat, but that's pretty much the last time Dallas' prima donnas had ANYTHING to justify their overweening pride. I REALLY don't want to go down that road.

Hopefully Roby's up to the challenge, and looks at least as good as he did in preseason against backups. I agree Webster's the real loss though, especially after that Brandon Spano Network article claiming Webster'd made a quantum leap in camp; last year he looked very talented but raw, so I was hoping for something like that, but it does us no good if he's not on the field. And I still worry whether Harris' ACL is 100%; I'd rather not push it any more than necessary early in the season.

Maybe it's just because I don't follow other teams enough, but "shrouded in secrecy" is EXACTLY the phrase, and I can't recall the last time NO ONE knew what benched two players over a week after it happened. Rapistburgers scandal came out a lot faster, but maybe that's because he's a bigger name and he was accused of rape. Sidenote: Moreno had 24 carries for 134 yds (5.6 avg.) and a TD against a rebuilt Pats D one author linked here calls the best NE D since 2007. Not that we could've kept him for what we're paying Hillman, but it's hard to express just how much Moreno+Ball>Ball+Hillman.

That would've been awesome, yeah; sadly, I think the issue was money, not talent. Possibly playing time, too; we didn't draft Ball as a 2nd round benchwarmer (then again, we didn't draft Moreno as a 1st round benchwarmer.) Pity we voided our 2014 option on Moreno; he'd have been a steal at the 2014 price we were looking at going into 2013. Oh, well; guess even genius GMs aren't perfect.

Nice play by Irving to slow what had previously looked like a pretty effortless drive; put 'em in a hole that even Richardsons long screen pass couldn't dig out of (nice play by Moore stopping him a yard short, too.) Just, y'know: Don't ask Irving to cover Reggie Wayne one-on-one again; he may be good enough to start at Mike, but few Mikes can cover HoF WRs.
