We don't know the seriousness of Trevathan's injury yet, but pulling out the cart at Dove Valley is never good

According to the article it might not be serious.

Initial reports from the team are encouraging that the injury might not be serious.

Yeah, let's hope the initial reports are correct. It would be a tough blow to absorb if he went down.

Seems the last few years when there's an injury, we always get a "maybe it's not so bad, we're doing more tests" type of statement from the Broncos. And then, the next statement is that the player's season is over.

We really need the tackling machine. This would really suck if its going to be next man up. That would likely be brandon marshall, maybe corey nelson

Last year a similar thing happened to Trevathan in preseason and he ended up fine. Let's hope for the same result.

All I heard in the offseason was how unimportant the linebacker position was, specifically MLB. Danny plays outside but now there's TWO unknowns at LB if he can't come back.

Hmm. I wasn't exactly clear on why Woodyard got as little respect from the Broncos as he did, but he'd have been nice to have on the roster right about now...

My first thought hearing that was Von's ACL...they said the same thing.

An already thin LB corps just got thinner. But if he's only missing 3 games...that's a blessing compared to what it could be

VonDoom

If timetable is accurate, he'd miss no more than four games. It'd be nice to have him back after the early bye but I guess we'll see.

8 weeks would be 9/30. With a bye in week 4, he'd only miss 3 games. Good news...but who the hell replaces him? Would love to see Chaney return to form

My guess would be Marshall or Johnson. Barrow is currently fighting for the MLB spot. Not quite sure how thrilled I'd be to throw a rookie in there that hasnt played the WILL before.

I had the same thought on Chaney, but I tweeted Andrew Mason about it and he said that in Chaney's one season where he really played, he had a -13 rating from PFF. Guess he wasn't really all that good.

I dont think I'll ever understand those ratings. I watch most Philly games and I just dont recall him being all that bad that year. Obviously, there is something I didnt see.

#Broncos LB Danny Trevathan has a left medial tibial impaction fracture. He is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

I prefer this to Trevathan getting hurt at the end of the season and missing the playoffs. Here's to a speedy and successful recovery. He's pretty important to this defense.

Eight weeks is 10/7, not 9/30. Though Trev is quoted as saying he'll be back in 4-6 and we can only hope so

I believe Marshall is technically next on the chart. Isn't Barrow Irving's direct backup?

OK - Am I the only one having a hard time with the name Brandon Marshall? Just too weird

And I dont know what a broken kneecap entails - it sounds nasty but from what Ive seen everyone thinks its an easy bounce back - I hope so

from article:

A source who spoke to Trevathan says both his ACL and MCL are fine, but the third-year defender suffered a left medial tibial impaction fracture (the bone below his knee), per a Broncos spokesman.

Until Denver's leading tackler returns, look for a combination of Brandon Marshall, Jamar Chaney and Lerentee McCray to fill the void.

It could have been much worse so hopefully he'll be ready to go in that 6 to 8 week range. That said it's probably a little easier to cope with the lose of Trevathan than it is a premier pass rusher.

Although the depth chart lists Barrow as the No. 2 middle linebacker and Marshall as the second-team outside linebacker, the members of the position group are learning versatility.

"(Linebackers) Coach (Richard) Smith and Coach (Jack) Del Rio, they've been cross-training us. We've all been learning all of the positions," Barrow said.

Yeah, this is probably true. I just think there are a lot of question marks there right now. Hell, we all expect Miller to be back to form, but what if it takes him some time to get up to speed? Irving's got a bigger role and I hope he's the answer at Mike. Beyond that ... I just don't know what Barrow, Marshall, McCray, etc are going to bring to the table. Trevathan seemed like the most likely guaranteed success in the LB corps this year, so it's a shame that this had to happen to him. Thankfully this isn't an ACL and I think he'll come back as strong as ever.

The Night Before Seattle

Danny Trevathan is a playa, but 6 to 8 weeks out.
The Broncos winning ways? Neva in doubt!

Its a team sport fellas, make no mistake.
If Peyton were to drop, cant we sign Jake?

The point that Im makin, is USE YO HEADS mates!
In the book of GM ELWAY, page 14 states:

"There are worse situations, that we've been in!
Throw a hundred dollas, at stud Paris Lenin!

All through BroncosForums, the cheer is returning,
Life is looking brighter, the competitive fire burning.

Danny boy be good, get healthy for the battle,
Cause we sure gonna need ya, if we want to beat Seattle.

(man I cant wait for the season to start)

I can't argue with that those guys behind Trevathan are all unknowns so it's hard say what Denver has in them. The two saving graces are one, Del Rio is a very good defensive coordinator and should be able to find a way to manage the situation and two, barring any problems Trevathan should back after about four games.

If Steven Johnson can keep making plays, I think he will ultimately be the guy at WLB in week 1. My concern about losing Trevathan was that he is our defensive signal caller. Has there been any word who is going to have headset responsibilities going forward?

That's a good question and unfortunately I haven't seen anything to indicate who might get that responsibility.

Come on dude, you don't even use your knee caps to play football. The should be able to tape a 1/8th inch styrofoam pad on top of it for added protection and have him out there week 1.
