Not sure anything about scheduling and am sure this has already been covered, but why is Denver playing a team in the preseason that they play in the regular season?

I don't know a definitive answer, but a lot of it has to do with travel times in the preseason. I think the NFL tries to keep travel distances down during preseason so you play teams in your geographical area.

I think west coast teams want to travel shortly and save times. Same thing for Denver.

Why do they have to travel to NE for the third straight year, that's what bothers me. Last time they were in Denver for reg season was with TT.

Here's hoping that "Dick" Sherman tears whatever passes for the ACL in his jaw from opening it too wide and overusing it and gets placed on IR...;-)

As I posted in this thread - http://www.broncosforums.com/forums/showthread.php/571712-Denver-Broncos-2014-Schedule-Broncos-2014-Opponents-Finalized/page4

I just did research on this elsewhere and don't feel like going through all the specifics, but it is indeed on a cycle. Remember, we play the Patriots every three years because we're playing the AFC East. If we play them in the intervening years, it's because we've finished in the same position in our division as they did in theirs. Since the format changed after 2002, our six year cycle in those games has been as follows:

2003 - vs AFC East, at AFC South
2004 - vs AFC East, at AFC North
2005 - vs AFC North, at AFC South
2006 - at AFC East, vs AFC South
2007 - at AFC East, vs AFC North
2008 - at AFC North, vs AFC South

That cycle repeated from 2009-2014; in this example, 2012 and 2013 we were at that AFC East team that happened to be the Patriots. This cycle starts again with 2015 and 2016 being home games against the AFC East team; if it is the Patriots in that scenario, then we will play them at home two years in a row. And in 2017, we will play the AFC East in its entirety again, and it should flip the home/away games, meaning that we'd play the Pats (and Jets) at home. So potentially, we could play the Pats three straight years AT HOME in the near future.

I has to do with the fact Broncos play NFC West every preseasin. Just thus year they play in the normal season as well. That us why we do not play all 4 NFC West teams this year.

I'm eager to see the defensive line play, plus to see what kind of a push the left side of the offensive line gets now. Clady and Franklin next to each other should be night and day compared to last year. For those of you who think Clady isn't good in the run game, you're wrong. :D

Yes, because they've finished in the same position in their division as we have in recent years (first, in this case). We will play an AFC East team at home in 2015 and 2016 - if we finish in the same spot as the Patriots each year, it will be them.

It would be nice if we got to play them at home every other year, instead of once out of every 5 games. I think the last time we played them at home was 5 years ago...other than the AFC Championship game last year.

Probably because the "we always have to go to new England" thing is a huge myth that some Broncos fans like to perpetuate. In the Tom Brady era, we have played exactly half of our games against the pats in denver and half on the road.

We played them at home in 2011. Unfortunately the way the schedule worked out, we play(ed) them in NE for three straight years. Potentially, though, we will play them in Denver for three straight years starting next year (2017 is the only one guaranteed at this point, but I think we all assume we'll both finish first in our respective divisions this year).

I somewhat disagree. He broke two tackles and it took three Seahawks to tackle him on the first down run out of the shotgun on the second drive.

In general, yes, he's a different type of back, though. Granted, I'm only watching this as it comes on here on NFLN, but I think Hillman looks better than last year. Thompson and Bibbs were also playing scrubs who won't be on rosters in three weeks, too.

Didnt catch the game. Anyone got cliff notes? I see by the box score Thompson did well which makes me happy.

Well, off the top of my head:

Peyton and DT have great chemistry.
Peyton had some ducks... more than I'm comfortable with.
Hillman did "okay", imo. (he did score the first TD)
Julius Thomas didn't show much.
E. Saunders didn't catch anything.
Welker showed up, nearly scored with Peyton under pressure.
The penalties were outrageous. No tempo in the game at all until our rookie RB's started getting touches.
C.J. got plowed and removed due to concussion.
Brock seemed a bit cautious at first, but he was consistant extending plays with his legs (reminds me of Rothlisberger being hard to arm tackle). I thought his deep balls floated, but he did zip it nicely for his only TD pass.

The overall D-line put pretty good pressure on the QB and stopped the run (Lynch didn't play), imo.
D-Ware ran Russell Wilson down for a 1 yd loss (Russell scrambled).
Irving played really great. Was on a lot of tackles.
TJ Ward put a lot of pressure on the QB (forced Wilson to scramble and extend plays).
Wolfe had a sack, I think, or a tackle for a loss (he looks solid).
Travathon seemed to pick up where he left off.
Talib hurt his arm making a great openfield tackle (it wasn't a light hit), but I think he'll be fine.

Juwan Thompson was the highlight reel of the game. He broke some big gains via off tackles AND cuts through the line. Honestly reminded me of TD a little bit. And, when he was brought down, he was falling foward and his tacklers were falling backward. Strong runner!

Seattle wouldn't have scored their 1st offense's TD had it not been for Bronco penalties prolonging drives. The Broncso looked really well and balanced in all aspects, imo.

P.S. Our starting O-Line looked really great against the Seattle starting D-Line. Clady is a difference maker.

Oh yeah, Roby. He was up and down. Looks like growing pains to me (getting used to the speed ability of professional rcvrs). In coverage, seems more reactive right now, but may be athletic enough to stay with and react better to rcvrs.

The young running backs look promising. Seattles defense is so freaking good and intimidating. They really must be scary to play against, I don't care who you are.

I didn't notice if Cam Chancelor was playing. That guy is a beast.

DENVER- Peyton Manning and the first team offense didn’t play past the first quarter. While he and his multitude of weapons were on the field on Thursday night, they did make an impact – showing glimpses of the offensive magic we saw last season and giving the second team offense a one-touchdown cushion as they came on the field in the second quarter.

While Manning went 10-of-13 for 78 yards and his second quarter relief Brock Osweiler added 85 yards of his own, No. 18 was particularly impressed with the team’s progress on the ground. The Broncos racked up 116 yards on the ground.

“It’s nice to get some reps in the run game and the pass game,” Manning said. “I thought Ronnie [Hillman] and C.J. [Anderson] had a couple nice runs. Certainly Montee [Ball’s] injury is another opportunity for those guys to get some reps, so we’ll see a lot from the film. Definitely some good things out there.”

Quanterus SMith had some very nice consistent pressure. I wonder where he stands in the scheme of things.

Some other teams are going to get some very good/potentital with our dlinemen that don't make the team.

Besides the flags, that was one of the best damn preseason games in years. We have some serious talent on this team.
Wondering how Talibs shoulder is today and CJs concussion...Not sure if there were any other injuries

Irving's illegal-contact penalty: maybe the softest contact I've ever seen draw a flag. Didn't impact route. Wouldn't be a foul in soccer.

DENVER – Just how healthy did DeMarcus Ware look in his preseason debut for his new team?

Let’s ask Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who on Thursday night seemed to be constantly trying to outrun the new Denver Broncos’ defensive end. Ware sacked Wilson once in the first quarter of Denver’s 21-16 win, pressured Wilson into an incomplete throw and recorded a tackle for a loss in limited action.

“He is a force,” Wilson said late Thursday night. “He’s right there on every play.”

Part of their reputation is built on them doing things like they did in the end zone when Hillman scored.

I know what you are saying, but the talent and the coaching are there. They are an amazing defense, especially in this pass offense friendly league.

I don't see him getting cut. If he keeps playing that against better competition he could easily end up in the starting line up eventually.

Free agents need moments.

Juwan Thompson went undrafted and signed with the Broncos for $3,500. The minimal investment explains the urgency to capitalize on every chance.

Thompson's arrived Thursday with 6:41 remaining in the second quarter of the Broncos' exhibition game with the Seattle Seahawks. From the shotgun, quarterback Brock Osweiler handed to Thompson, who motored around right end for 18 yards.

"It took a long time for me to get into the game," said Thompson, his debut delayed by the 45-minute lightning stoppage. "Just like coach says, 'You've got to be ready to go. There's only one opportunity to play in the NFL.'^"

The preseason can only tell us so much. It helps to decide some starting jobs. It gives us a peek at some promising rookies. And it proves that some veterans are healthy once again.

It only took one quarter of action Thursday night in Denver to realize that DeMarcus Ware is back to being DeMarcus Ware.

In his brief work, Ware recorded a quarterback sack, stuffed a run at the line of scrimmage and recorded two more quarterback pressures. His best play was wiped out by a penalty, but it showed that Ware is feeling like his old self.

I'm about as excited as I can get about a free agent about this Thompson kid.

Thompson brings a puncher's chance of making the roster because he's built like a boxer, a sculpted 5-foot-11, 225 pounds.

That surprised me, the dude plays like he's 245 or something. Then I find out he's academic all-conference and he's saying, "I love to pass block, I love special teams"--I'm rooting for this dude big time.

I hope he gets some reps with the first team so we can see how he performs against a first string D.
That's always the illusion with these guys. They look like monsters against 3rd and 4th stringers.
If he smashes away like that against a first string D in week 4 of the pre-season...look out.

Yeah, but there are a lot of guys who can't even run good against 3rd and 4th stringers. Also, you gotta remember that he had 3rd and 4th stringers blocking for him.

Yeah, Thompson won me over. He's a rookie, first preseason game, ran around and through defenders with 2nd, 3rd, & 4th stringers blocking for him.

Hillman = still not impressed.

C.J. = always have hopes for him, but he seems to not be able to get over a hump that has been in his way the entire time he's been in Denver.

That was bad luck for CJ. I saw when he got hit he had the old fencing response that was a sign of a concussion. Unlucky, hit at an awkward angle in the wrong spot of the crown. I hope he doesn't feel the need to rush back and the medical staff learns their lesson from Wolfe, he could be an important part of the season. He's probably a legit #2 considering his time in the system. I see JT as making the roster as a versatile, grindy football player and a nice "salt the game" change of pace back late in games to seal a win (the pace = you tackle me you feel pain so just give up already). I'd rather have CJ, Hillman (ball security issues the only caveat), and Ball when the Broncos are losing or even.
