DENVER -- The Denver Broncos went public Sunday as they held their first training camp practice of the season in front of their loyal followers.

They escaped a fully-padded workout of two hours without any significant injuries and the 21,993 fans on hand got their first up-close look at the changes the team made following the 35-point loss in Super Bowl XLVIII.

'It was exciting to out there in front of them,’’ said linebacker Von Miller. “ ... We all like to show what kind of team we have."

One of those highly-anticipated free-agent signees, defensive end DeMarcus Ware, was held out if the second half of the practice with what Broncos head coach John Fox called a lower leg bruise.

Highlight: They weren't holding a game. They were holding a practice. Not a game. A practice. And 21,933 fans showed up to see the Broncos stretch, perform drill work and go 11-on-11 in the red zone where the first team enjoyed a strong day at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. "It was a definitely great to be out there in front of them. I was pumped," said linebacker Von Miller, who remains on progress in his recovery from right knee surgery. The practice began with Peyton Manning signing autographs at 11:10 a.m., and concluded with the bulk of the roster penning paraphernalia for fans hanging shirts, footballs and pictures over the railing.

Lowlight: Sports Authority Field at Mile High hosted 54,000 fans for Saturday's friendly between Manchester United and AS Roma. It was considered a success, but not necessarily for the grass. The turf was cut lower for the soccer game, leading to multiple slips by Broncos. Pass rusher DeMarcus Ware was held out of part of practice with bruised leg, but coach John Fox said it's not serious. Demaryius Thomas, as scheduled, missed the practice but is expected to rejoin the team on Monday after arranging and attending his grandmother's funeral in Georgia.

To improve on their red-zone offense, the Broncos will have to do better than No. 1.

Some problems are little more pleasant to deal with than others.

"It's a new year and it's different guys out there," said left guard Orlando Franklin. "Different chemistry. Emmanuel Sanders wasn't here last year. Montee Ball didn't have as much of a role as he's having right now. So we've got to be able to work at it."

It was red zone and pretty much nothing but during the Broncos' team drills Sunday as they moved their training camp practice to Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

DENVER -- It's been 189 days since Bronco fans last saw their team perform in Colorado. That's also 189 days since Broncos players had that familiar mile-high roar to urge them onward.

"We've got the best fans ever in NFL history," Rahim Moore said after practice. "It's a blessing to be out here."

The fans more than returned the love, with many lining up at stadium gates early Sunday morning to get a front-row seat for their first on-field introduction to the 2014 Broncos. Others sacrificed their choice of seats to greet the players even earlier, staying outside the stadium and lining the walls of the southwest tunnel for when the team bus arrived.

It looked like it was on the sidelines, but in that Man U match Saturday there were already some rough patches.

Kenny Chesney did some real damage, I just don't like them doing that. I understand the money aspect, but the Broncos get that place the bulk of their money so there should be some guarantee on conditions of the field.

They'll probably re-sod the field after the final preseason game.
