DENVER (CBS4) – CBS4 has learned that Denver police issued an arrest warrant Thursday for Denver Broncos strong safety T.J. Ward, a prized free agent pickup.

According to documents reviewed by CBS4, Ward is wanted in connection with an incident that took place May 9 which is categorized both as an assault and disturbing the peace.

The warrant became active Thursday. It was issued for Terrell R. Ward, T.J. Ward’s real name. The date of birth on the warrant matches Ward’s date of birth.

Court records reveal little about what prompted the issuance of the arrest warrant. However, sources say the warrant was issued in connection with a scuffle at a Denver nightclub.

The Broncos agreed to terms earlier this year with Ward, who previously played for the Cleveland Browns and was a Pro Bowl player.

Ward signed a $23 million contract with the Broncos. He has been in the NFL since 2010.

Our nights don't start off at the strip club, but many a nights have ended up there. A bunch of us used to head to PT's after the bar closed because it was just a couple blocks from the bar I managed. It kind of sucks getting in with the strippers though...when you're getting a lap dance ya really don't want to hear about their schedule for picking up their kids the next day. :laugh: We had fun though. Ward's attorney, Abe Hutt, said the warrant was mistakenly issued. His client did not know he was wanted until he saw a television news report while waiting Thursday night to board a flight at Denver International Airport, Hutt said.

Ward appeared in court Friday morning. The warrant was dismissed because it had been mistakenly issued by the police, Hutt said.

Instead, Ward was given a ticket and another court date. He was not arrested or booked at the jail.

Ward was holding a glass bottle, and the bartender asked him to take the bottle to his car or throw it away. Ward told the bartender he was allowed to have the bottle, according to the court document.

About 10 minutes later, Ward returned to the bar with a non-alcoholic drink purchased at the club and asked for a cup of ice. The bartender then saw him pour from the same bottle he had been told to take outside, the document said.

The bartender took the cup and poured out the drink. When she turned to help another customer, she felt something hit her wrist, the document said.

At the time, the bartender did not know who the customer was. Other staff members later told her it was Ward.

The bartender was able to identify him through a picture from the Internet. And police detectives were able to review video surveillance from inside the club.

The video showed Ward watching the bartender after she took away his glass. As she passed him, "he picks up a glass mug that is sitting on the bar and tosses/throws the glass mug at her. The male then walks away," the court document said.

lol, this actually reminds me of a time......

I was still a recruit and based near Bournemouth and went to a strip club, two strippers were asking where we lived, they said they were from that area as well and they would give us a lift home - we thought we had scored and presumed they appreciated our natural charm.........sure enough they gave us a lift - straight to camp and dropped us at the accommodation block then they left.

Turns out they were in a relationship with some instructors from camp decided to tell them all of the "lies" me and my pal had been telling them about our esteemed military careers in an effort to score! If my memory serves me right - i may have claimed to be special forces due to fly out to south america the following morning (clearly bullshit!)

Monday morning was not an enjoyable experience as me and my mate got utterly destroyed by our training team.

Prosecutors have agreed to drop charges against Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward in exchange for community service.

A judge accepted the deal on Monday during a brief hearing in Denver.

Ward previously pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor assault and disturbing the peace charges for allegedly throwing a glass mug at a female bartender at PT's All Nude Club in May.

Ward told the judge he understood the conditions of the program but said nothing else.

A judge will review the status of the case on Oct. 31.

NFL is unlikely to suspend a player for misdemeanor assault (no weapon, no serious bodily harm) and disturbing the peace. This is the sort of charge that generally results in a suspended sentence and maybe a fine, plus perhaps some community service time. Hell, I had a client who plead a class 3 assault with a deadly weapon (knife) down to a class 5 with a stip to probation. She got fined and went on probation. I assume T.J. isn't exactly going up the river on this one.

Still it's disturbing. Why the hell can't the Broncos can't just put P.T.'s strip club off-limits to players. I seem to recall it's been the scene of SEVERAL Broncos arrests as it's the strip club nearest the facility and seems to draw the players in like flies to flypaper.
