Prior to the draft, I had spoken about this small, shifty, slot guy coming out of Fresno State that nobody was talking about. I said that somebody was going to grab this young man in the sixth or seventh round and I honestly felt like he could make an impact at the next level.

The draft came and went and Isaiah Burse was not selected by anybody. The kid that didn't miss one game at Fresno State over a four year span totaling over 50 starts couldn't gain traction over the three day event in New York. Fresno State's Top QB prospect Derek Carr completed a whopping 230 passes to the combination of Burse and second round pick Davante Adams. And Burse accounted for......... Cool. How? Caldwell going to get cut right after they extended him?

If this guy looks to have more upside, then sure.

We could also keep 6WR on the depth chart

Nah. They'll put him on practice squad before they do that. Manning likes him some tight ends.

That didn't sound right.

Anyone know if he's a decent KR/PR? The return game is the only place I see him getting a roster spot other than the PS. Unless he's just stupid gifted, I doubt he can surpass the other 5 guys in front of him.

Of course, there is always injury...

Ok so I guess I should've read some of the rookie camp reports prior to posting. Apparently, we are looking at Burse as a returner.

College free agent WR Isaiah Burse talks about choosing the Broncos and the possibility of a kick returner role.

He seems like a real good kid.

Burse will be competing for the Broncos punt and kick return specialist position in training camp - that's his ticket onto the 53 man roster. But if he has a strong enough pre-season, he could possibly see time as a slot receiver in four or five receiver sets. I'm certainly not predicting anything this early, because a lot can happen between now and opening night, but I have a very strong feeling that Burse will be in the mix when it comes down to final cut day at Dove valley.

The thing that's against him is that the Broncos added a WR in the 2nd in Cody Latimer. Then they have D.T, Welker, Emanuel Sanders, and Bubba Caldwell ahead of him. That makes 5 WRs already who are guaranteed roster spots. Unless the Broncos go with 6 wideouts (possible) then he'd have no shot. They very well might go with 6 if he's going to be their starting kick-returner and punt-returner.

What's in his favor is that the team let Decker walk, and cut Trindon Holliday. In 2012 they kept 6 WRs on the final roster, including Matthew Willis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Denver_Broncos_season#Roster_changes).

He could also wind up on the practice squad for a year like Caldwell did.

Right now though they have 11 WRs on the roster including 5 rookies, including Isaiah Burse

Bennie Fowler
Greg Wilson
Greg Hardin
Cody Latimer

And they added some veterans in Jordan Norwood (4 seasons with Philly & Cleveland, most recently in the league in 2012), and Nathan Palmer who was signed as a FA in 2012 by the 49ers and wound up in 2012 on the Colts final roster where he played in 5 games and had only 1 catch on the year, and 2013 he was on the practice squad in Miami before they released him.

We picked him up BECAUSE he's a returner. Letting him understudy in the slot with Welker and return kicks is fine. Caldwell did just sign an extension, but not for real bonus money, and most of it's incentives (aka, if you get on the field, then you make more money). If Burse can do what he does for basically free, AND return kicks, that gives him a definite chance to make the team.

I still think we're gonna have a couple undrafteds make the team, with maybe another couple on the PS. Not common, but our undrafteds were players who could help out at positions of need. Returner and RB/special teams were definitely needs.

I like Burse. Quick feet, good hands, not as fast as you might think but more than gets the job done. He might not have the speed to take em to the house on the pros but he seems to have the vision to take em to the 50. Always going upfield once he catches the ball either as a receiver or returner, which makes me happy. I hate sideline runners with a passion. Go get real yards. He does that.

I would be shocked if Bubba Caldwell isn't on the final 53 man roster. Peyton Manning developed a trust with him last year, and since they let Decker go, Manning is going to want WRs he can trust to go up and get the ball. Manning is going to get the WRs he wants.

Isaiah Burse is one of 5 guys competing to be the next KR/PR and special teams guy.

The snap count came on a sun-bleached Sunday. No. 19 broke off the line, stopped at the imaginary red light, cut and pawed the football out of the sky. It happened so fast, you wanted to check the Broncos' rookie minicamp roster again.

Is it Isaiah Burse or Isaiah Burst?

Everything about this wide receiver seems a little fast: his legs, his feet, his words, which tumble out of his mouth with passion and inflection, and his potential path to the roster.

An undrafted free agent has made the Broncos' final cut 10 consecutive years — the third-longest active stretch in the NFL, behind the Indianapolis Colts (15) and the Kansas City Chiefs (11). Burse is poised to extend Denver's streak.
