P Steven Clark- 6'5 231

Clark is the definition of consistency and punting accuracy. His calling card is the hang time he gets on his punts, and his ability to pin opponents deep in their own territory. Despite a pedestrian gross average, he finished 2nd in the nation in net average. Kicking at sea level Clark had only 21 of his 186 punts returned for an average return of only 4.7 yards . Clark uses an Aussie style punt to pin opponents deep, which bounces the ball back towards the punter when it hits. He downed 74 punts inside the 20 yard line over the last 3 seasons, including 26 in 2013.

When looking at sleepers to make this team, don't rule this kid out. He's more than camp fodder. He should push Colquitt for the starting job from day 1. Throw in the fact that Colquitt finished 26th in the NFL with a 44.5 yard gross average in altitude. That's not a good stat for a player that's scheduled to be the 8th highest paid at his position in 2014. Colquitt will count 2 million against the cap if he makes the team. Clark would count less than 500k against the cap. If the punting competition is at all close in training camp and preseason, the Broncos front office may choose to go with the rookie, who did his best punting in big games in college.

One more note. I decided that I should be fair and take weather and such into consideration, so I went back and compared the head to head battle between Colquitt and the opponents punter every week. Colquitt lost his matchup in 12 of the 15 games he punted in during the regular season. In the playoffs he punted in only one game, losing that battle. His worst game of the season was in the super bowl.

Maybe they could trade Colquitt for a MLB and LG.

Btw, I'm sold, keep Clark and roll Colquitts salary into next year.

Wake the **** up. We don't need a true MLB or a true LG. Let's keep our true punter.

Can Colquitt play MLB?

Can Colquitt play MLB?

He's probably closer to Al Wilson than the chump we drafted from LSU

I love this pick. I have been keeping an eye on his college play for a couple of years and am super happy that he landed with Denver.

Shouldnt be too hard to replace Colquitt

He's been pretty average. Especially considering he punts in Denver 8 times a year.

I like the sounds of this clark kid. That he uses an Aussie style punt to pin opponents deep. Ive never heard of such a thing, but I think it could be the next cool thing

it's great to pin other teams deep, but not so much after they convert. seems like that was the case last year, or I saw it a few times. didn't mean to get off topic though,

Darren Bennett - former Chargers Pro Bowler - was an Aussie punter. I think he may have been one of the first to popularize Australian punting in the NFL. But it's fairly common and widespread at this point.

Competition brings out the best (and worst). Let the best man win. I have no loyalty to Colquitt or Clark and I bet the Broncos' FO doesn't either.

Will he compete for ILB? Maybe a new position puntbacker? Bring in Sauerbrun to coach him up?

Oh. Wow. He can pin them back on their own 5. It just means we'll give up more yards. Duh

With our offense we don't do a whole lot of punting. If we can upgrade at the position while paying less then I'm all for it.

And here's another thing you're forgetting. Colquitt is the best damn placeholder in the NFL.

In addition, defensive end John Youboty (Achilles) was designated as waived/injured, while defensive tackle Mister Cobble and punter Steven Clark were waived.

I told you guys that Clark has no chance against a finely tuned punter such as Britton Colquitt.
