Halfback/kicker Gene Mingo, wide receiver Rick Upchurch and Head Coach Dan Reeves were elected by the selection committee during its annual meeting.

“(Owner & CEO) Pat Bowlen and the Broncos are very proud of their tradition and alumni, and we are thrilled with the election of Gene Mingo, Rick Upchurch and Dan Reeves into the Ring of Fame,” Broncos President Joe Ellis said. “They played a key role in three important eras of Denver Broncos history and are most deserving of this prestigious honor.

“Our organization looks forward to honoring Gene, Rick and Coach Reeves as we celebrate their distinguished and lasting contributions to the Denver Broncos.”

The induction ceremony for all three men will take place at halftime of the Broncos' Week 2 home game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Kickoff on Sunday, September 14 is scheduled for 2:25 p.m. MDT.

'bout time for Upchurch!

Nice touch for Dan Reeves.

Don't know much about Mingo, other than hearsay.

Edit for Mingo:

In 1960, he had the first punt return for a touchdown in the American Football League, for the Denver Broncos. That touchdown won the first-ever American Football League game, as the Broncos defeated the Boston Patriots. Mingo also scored the first points in Mile High Stadium, then called Bears Stadium, with an 18-yard field goal.

Pretty cool.

I see the Broncos have a long tradition of beating the Patriots. Interesting.

Very happy for all three but especially Upchurch. He was my first favorite player. I wrote him a letter and he not only responded he also sent two autographed football cards, team program and a bunch of assorted Broncos memorabilia. For those who don't know, to this day he is still one of the most dangerous players to touch a ball and easily one of the best punt returners in NFL history

So glad to hear about this. Rick Upchurch has always been the epitome of class. Just an all around nice person.

Bowlen's health?

Could be. Seems political. Like they were being denied and someone just relented. Otherwise why would Nalen get in ahead of them?

Bowlen's health?

Is there new news on this? I thought the old reports were at least somewhat debunked?

Love what the did with the new "busts" they put up.

The selection committee votes on this. Have no idea if Pat even has any input.

Also for Mingo

Mingo, an original Bronco, will also represent the Broncos in the 2014 NFL Draft. He will announce the team's second-round pick live at Radio City Music Hall.

Props to Mingo if he doesn't have to use a cane or a walker. He was playing professional football 55 years ago. He's probably pushing 80 at the minimum.

Smartest thing Dan Reeves ever did was to keep Joe Collier on as defensive coordinator. During the early years when Elway was still figuring out which butt to line up behind, the Broncos won principally with defense and that was the construct of Joe Collier. Reeves understood as little about defense as Shanahan did.

He also coached the team to 3 SB's. And took another in the Falcons. He lost them all but still...

Im curious about the health of Rick Upchurch. Does anyone have any info? I know they held a benefit dinner a couple years ago in P-blow to raise money for his medical costs.
Edit, just found this story about Rick. Hope he is doing okay now

Rick Upchurch was the first favorite player I ever had as a kid. He was electric.

I agree with you, but that D was starting to fall apart by 1986. Someone I talk football with on You Tube (he is a lot more knowledgeable than the trolls that are on that site) said that, when Collier stopped stunting his D-linemen later that season, they just looked like a bunch of average guys. Some Elway haters tried to point out to me that the D carried the Broncos to all those SB's, but that's simply not true (except maybe for 89, when Wade Philips came in).

As for the ROF, though, they need to get Simon Fletcher elected. Most underrated sack man ever. Can't believe he didn't make one single Pro Bowl.

The biggest problem I can remember with our 3-4 in the 80's was how undersized we were. I can remember 290 lb NT's and 270 lb DE's. It's a big part of the reason we would get eaten alive by the elite NFC teams in the SB's, along with DB's that were slower than LB's.

The Broncos did have the #1 defense in the NFL during the 1989 season (14.1 points allowed per game), but that didn't help them during the super bowl ;_;

I don't think Greg Kragen ever sniffed 290...maybe not even 280.
