In Denver this offseason, the fuel grade of choice is 35 octane.

When one player gets fatigued or lapses during a training session a teammate will yell "35!"

last year, they reportedly watched the baltimore playoff loss before every game, and we made it through the AFC. . . wherever they gotta find some extra motivation to finish the job this time, works for me. . .

ugh

Pretty much my reaction. I could see it if they lost by 2 points or something to use that as motivation, getting every yard--or something. But to reference one of the worst if not THE worst SB performances ever as routine? Best to just forget it completely, IMO--short memory--all that shit. Why not just yell "we suck!" on every play?

Maybe because it motivates them to be better.

I think if they make the players watch the SB tape over and over they're going to want to kill themselves. I know I would. :coffee: Or worse, they'll become numb and it will have no more impact. They might make them watch it once just to go over how awful it was -- just in case anybody forgot over the off-season.

It was bad alright, but it was definitely not worse than 55-10. Nothing could ever be worse than that, coming off the two previous blow-out SB losses. Now if they went back this year or next and got blown out again, that could be AS bad, but not worse, because Denver has already won 2 SBs, whereas in the 80s they had never won, and after the humiliation by the 49ers it looked like they never would.

I remember that next season I did NOT want them to go back to the SB. I just couldn't face having to watch another such beating.

Wow, I could not disagree more. Denver didn't belong on the field with that Niners team. They were deep underdogs and lost big as expected. I don't remember a lot of people calling for the upset there.

I think this loss has more similarity to the Washington loss -- two teams on paper that should have been fairly evenly matched and for whatever reason the Broncos just totally and humiliatingly imploded in front of the whole world.

Super bowl blowouts suck. 55-10 or 43-8...both were dreadful. The washington loss was brutal because of the most horrific quarter in the history of the super bowl..Doug Williams and tim smith were both one hit wonders and it was against us

Well it's like arguing about whether it's better to eat dog shit or drink a glass of yak urine. Neither is actually good.

But,

the Washington loss was bad because: a. Denver had the early lead. b. It was a game the Broncos should have been competitive in.

the 49ers loss was horrible because it started going wrong right away with a Broncos 3 and out and a 49ers 66 yard TD drive and never let up, and because they set numerous SB records that still stand --

This game remains the most lopsided game in Super Bowl history to date. San Francisco's 55 points were the most ever scored by one team, and their 45-point margin of victory was the largest ever. The 49ers are also the only team to score at least eight touchdowns in a Super Bowl and at least two touchdowns in each quarter.

That was the worst for me because it was the 4th straight SB loss, tying us with the Vikings for SB futility and Johnny Carson was making horrible Broncos jokes for something like 2 weeks straight. It looked like they would never win a SB, ever.

this latest loss was horrible because it just started rolling downhill with the 1st snap and they were never in the game.

So, each has it's bad aura of stink. You can take your pick I guess. This wasn't as bad for me because I could still remember back to 98' and that first SB parade and know that at least the Broncos aren't the Buffalo Bills. After the 49ers game I just didn't want to see another Broncos SB for a few years. Just chill and let some other team get beat. And I took some real pleasure when the Bills kept getting walloped because it took the edge off the Broncos futility. At least they didn't lose 4 straight.

I'd go with the yak urine.

I was at a Denver bar with some friends to watch the SB and the only person who had any fun at all on Super Sunday was some woman who got so totally drunk that she fell off her stool right onto her face before the kickoff and her friends had to escort her home. Over the last few months I kept thinking "She had the right idea. She passed out and totally missed the game and I'm sure her hangover didn't last nearly as long as mine has!"
