View Full Version : Danny Trevathan, once too small, a big deal on Denver Broncos defense

Danny Trevathan was too everything to play in the NFL.

Too short, standing 6-foot-1. Too slow. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.82 seconds at the NFL combine, making his eye-opening career at Kentucky useless when the draft arrived. Too little. His 237-pound frame is not suited for the rigors of the wood chipper that is the 16-game schedule.

Yet, after two seasons with the Broncos, he's become too important to imagine the defense without him. In a league of specialists, Trevathan is the rare breed of three-down linebackers.

"A lot of people used to say I was too small. I fed off that," Trevathan said. "For me to be here is a testimony to guys that are a little undersized. This league is constantly changing. You have to be able to run and hit as well as be a little physical."
