A total of 32 compensatory choices in the 2014 NFL Draft have been awarded to 13 teams, the NFL announced today.

Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.

The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four. The 32 compensatory choices announced today will supplement the 224 choices in the seven rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft (May 8-10), which will kick off in primetime for the fifth consecutive year

I'm not all that clear on how comp picks work. Why wouldn't we get one for Decker or DRC?

I believe it's the year prior. So whatever happened last season.

It's not like baseball where certain free agents are designated either A or B and if you lose an A free agent to free agency you get a back-end first round pick and if you lose a B free agent you get a back-end third round pick.

It's based on net loss, so number gained/number lost. Teams with negative numbers in that formula get a pick, or possibly two, at most three.

I see. I wasn't really aware how baseball's worked either. So I guess with all we signed we won't be seeing any comp picks.

I think it's also a year behind. So they are awarding comp picks based on last year's free agency period.

kind of amazing since 1994

denver was only awarded 9 picks

only 3 better than Cleveland at 6.

yet Balitmore had 41 extra picks

next is Dallas and GB 33

We rarely get them.

The Browns came back to the NFL in 1999 so we have 5 whole years ahead of them.

Which means that since 1994 our drafting has been garbage, and we've re-signed or traded the few good players that we have drafted.

It's also based on who you lost, the contract they signed elsewhere and who you gained or replaced them with......other things too.

But we haven't had many in a long while not only because we haven't drafted s well but we have signed a bunch of free agents to replace or wash out guys we lost. Also you do not get credit for guys cut, like doom. So all the shanny years with broncos etc.....we signed more than we lost etc....

We wil get a couple next year provided we don't sign many more players or big contracts.

We're not getting any next year. Lost four, gained four. Maybe Woodyard or Moreno, but I doubt it.

The best comp I can remember Denver receiving was a 3rd rounder for Ian Gold, who was signed by the Bucs iirc and then cut a year later. He then signed with Denver about the same time Denver was awarded that 3rd round comp pick, which woulda made it freakin awesome if Ian Gold didn't completely suck.
