My theory is that Lombardi and Banner severely underestimated the backlash to firing Chud - and never anticipated having so many coaching candidates tell them no - so Haslam is making them pay for a bad misstep.

Man, that organization is just in complete shambles. I'd rather lose a million Super Bowls 43-8 than our franchise ever be in that kind of shape.

Best part of this is Mike Lombardi back on the BS Report next season!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that! You'd think he'd be a really good GM with the great insight he gives as a member of the media, but it just seems like he can't ever stick in that role.

Yeah, he is obviously toxic in some way because he can't seem to keep a front office job... But he's great on the podcasts.
Holy shit, what a cluster ****....

Thank goodness he's out of there!! I really like Lombardi and thought that him taking that job was a bad career decision.

anyone who goes to work for them should ask for a 5 year guarantee in their contracts.

We can joke about it, but if winning is the benchmark for a coach keeping a job...then how long do we really expect him to last? It shocks me that anyone would willingly take that job there.

I've always thought Lombardi wasn't the brightest GM around. He deserved to be fired after stepping all over himself the way he did.

so who pulled the trigger on the chudzinski firing? If it was Lombardi then good they fired his ass too

Per a league source, here’s what happened. Owner Jimmy Haslam decided that Lombardi had to go. Haslam also decided that assistant G.M. Ray Farmer deserved to have full control over the football operation, unfettered by Banner’s authority over the football side of the organization.
So with Alec Scheiner running the business side of the organization and Farmer now in charge of the football operation, there was no need for Banner to stay.
The signs of a short-fused Haslam emerged a year ago, when Haslam decided to return to his “first love” at Pilot Flying J and bounced the man Haslam had hired from PepsiCo to run the company while Haslam was focusing completely on the Browns. It was Haslam, we’re told, who decided to fire coach Rob Chudzinski after one year. And now Haslam has fired Lombardi and Banner.

To Lombardi's credit he also pulled off the Trent Richardson trade, which was about as lopsided of a trade as there has been in recent memory.
Browns haven't been the same since they jettisoned Hillis (that was for you BTB), but could have been resurrected from the dead if they could have landed McDaniels (that was also for you BTB).

Just think if Byner hadnt fumbled in denver and Elway hadnt drove 98 yards in cleveland. If the Browns could have ever won a super bowl back in the 80s, it might have saved them

Now that CEO Joe Banner and general manager Michael Lombardi have been shoved out the door, the next to leave the Cleveland Browns might be 2013 opening day quarterback Brandon Weeden.
Two sources close to Weeden have told NFL Media columnist Michael Silver that the 2012 first-round draft pick is ready for a change of scenery.
"Given the turmoil with the coaching staff and lack of public support from the most recent front office, he's interested in a fresh start with a clean slate and an opportunity to compete to show he has the talent to develop into a productive player in the league," Silver reported Tuesday on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access."

Hours after sweeping CEO Joe Banner and general manager Michael Lombardi out the door, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam faced the media Tuesday to unpack the latest overhaul in Cleveland.
Aware that his team is perceived by some as a constantly churning clown car, Haslam dismissed the notion that the organization has sunk into complete dysfunction.
"I will just tell you that the people I talked to around the country do not think this isn't an outstanding opportunity here in Cleveland, whether it's to coach, play or work," Haslam said. "And I continue to hear that."

I know, it's hard to deal with an expansion team (errr, a team steeped in nearly 70 years of tradition after suing to pretend they aren't an expansion team) struggling so badly. I have the same reaction.

Apparently he's going where all failed "Patriot way" hacks go, back to Belicheat, rumor is he's going to be hired any day now.

I hope they get it together. They seem to have a pretty decent defensive guy as head coach. Hopefully Kyle Shanahan does well with the offense.
