JERSEY CITY, N.J. — There was one more assignment for this season's Broncos to fulfill, the order coming not from John Fox or John Elway, but operations boss Chip Conway.

Players dutifully, somberly, rolled their luggage Monday through the Hyatt hotel lobby, down a long corridor to a conference room that had served as a football war room for a week, but was now a sparse reminder of wasted time.

Across the hallway, Adam Gase leaned back across the outside corner of another conference room.

"The hardest part is we're going to have to go back and watch that game again on film," said Gase, the Broncos' offensive coordinator. "We're not looking forward to that. I wish I could have found that play that would have taken us out of that spiral."

Had Manning and the Broncos incorporated a "Zone Blocking" scheme to help Manning's passing prowess the game outcome would have been different. Point is, Manning does not have the spry youthfulness/arm strength to win SB's with his arm. A 97-98 type Bronco running attack would have made the Sea Hawks defense play honest.

Elway would not won two consecutive SB's without "Zone Blocking" running attack with a lead FB blocking for the RB. At this stage in Manning's career he would have also benefited from a zone blocking as well.

Now of course the 2013 Broncos had they implemented a zone blocking scheme would have had to have had a Terrell Davis type RB, which would been a high task if not impossible to find a replacement for the greatest zone blocking RB of all time.

Manning would have benefited also from having two RB's in the backfield for extra blocking as well.

Point is, Manning will not win a SB without having a robust consistent rushing attack......plain and simple.

There's a lot of truth to that. It needn't necessarily be a ZBS, but our offensive line was awful in pass AND run blocking, and it showed. Even in his prime, neither Peyton Manning nor any other QB was good enough to win a SB against a great D without a running game. Good defenses shred one-dimensional offenses, because once they know what to expect it's easy for a talented D to stop. The more lopsided the score got, the worse things got for our offense, but when the first snap of the game goes through the end zone, you know the line's in trouble.

The coaches shouldn't be confounded, they should be ashamed - they were taking it in and enjoying the experience, they treated it like the Pro-Bowl while Seattle treated it like the Super Bowl. No reason to be confounded, they were not prepared and likewise the players were unprepared and they got their ***es kicked.
