We are now moving forward with the positional breakdowns for the Super Bowl. Previously I did the quarterbacks and running backs. You can read that here (http://www.brandonspano.com/headlines.html?entry=super-bowl-positional-breakdown-qb). Today I am focusing on the wide receivers and tight ends.

SEAHAWKS WIDE RECEIVERS

Golden Tate: To start the season Golden Tate was the number two receiver on the team, behind Sidney Rice. Rice, however, tore his ACL in the middle of the season. With Rice and Percy Harvin both hurt Golden Tate was forced to play the number one role. He finished the season with the most receptions on the team, 64, and led the team in yards as well with 898. He caught five touchdown passes, which is tied for most on the team. This post season he has five catches for 44 yards.

Doug Baldwin: Another player that was forced to step up due to the injuries was Doug Baldwin. He caught 50 passes for 778 yards and five touchdowns. This season Baldwin was the Seahawks biggest deep threat. He caught nine passes on 15 targets for 302 yards, the most on the team, on passes thrown more than 20 yards down field; he also caught two touchdown passes. He ran 69 percent of his routes out of the slot, which is most on the team. He caught 33 passes for 568 yards and no touchdowns out of the slot. So far in the playoffs he has eight catches for 136 yards.

Percy Harvin: Harvin has had a very injury plagued season. He missed the majority of the season with a hip injury. When he finally returned in the divisional round of the playoffs he caught one pass for 17 yards, but was knocked out of the game with a concussion. He would miss the conference championship game, but has passed the concussion protocol, and head coach, Pete Carroll, says he will be ready to go for the game. We don’t know how much he will play, or how big of a factor he will be, but he has the ability to make plays, and having him on the field is good for the Seahawks.

BRONCOS WIDE RECEIVERS:

Demaryius Thomas: After a breakout season last year Thomas has had even more success in 2013. He caught 92 passes for 1,430 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was fourth in the NFL in receiving yards, and caught the most touchdown passes out of any receiver. He was second overall in the NFL, tight end Jimmy Graham caught 16. Peyton Manning has a quarterback rating of 122.6 when targeting Thomas this season. That number is the second highest, behind only DaSean Jackson and Nick Foles who have a 124.4. Thomas has 15 catches for 188 yards and two touchdowns this post season.

Eric Decker: Decker struggled in the first part of the season to get into the end zone. He had only three touchdown receptions in the first 11games of the season. However, he would catch eight touchdown passes in the final five weeks of the season. He would finish with the eighth most touchdown passes in the NFL. He had 87 catches...FULL STORY (http://www.brandonspano.com/headlines.html?entry=super-bowl-positional-breakdown-wr)
