Heading into the preseason the Broncos thought they were going to have three strong corners with Champ Bailey, Chris Harris, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. However, prior to the regular season starting Champ went down with a foot injury. He was only expected to miss a few weeks, and was expected to be ready for the start of the season. The foot injury lingered around, and he was making no progress.

Finally, in week six we got to see the future Hall of Fame cornerback return to the field. Except, his performance, was probably not what Broncos fans wanted to see.

In his first week playing in the 2013 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars Bailey allowed eight catches on 12 targets for 95 yards. Not exactly what Broncos fans wanted to see. In his second game against the Indianapolis Colts, which he left early, he allowed two catches on four targets for 23 yards and a touchdown. While his performance was better he re-injured his foot in the first half and didn’t return after halftime.

Bailey would return again after missing another four weeks of his already short season. He has now played in three of the Broncos 12 games. It was another mediocre performance for the veteran; he allowed four catches on four targets for 40 yards. He was benched in the second half, and would, once again, miss the next two games of the season.

He would once again return for the week 16 matchup against the Houston Texans. He would only play a limited role, and was on the field for only 35 plays. He would have by far the best game of his short season allowing only one catch for three on three targets. But it’s hard to judge if he was actually back to himself or not, considering the limited role.

He would play even less the following week against the Raiders however, it was only precautionary. After a week off for having the one seed the Broncos were ready to play the San Diego Chargers. With Champ Bailey being as healthy as he has been all season. He was set to be the nickel back and handle the role of covering the slot receiver. He had a decent game playing 29 snaps, allowing only three receptions for 27 yards....CONTINUE READING (http://www.brandonspano.com/headlines.html?entry=champ-bailey-finally-gets-there)
