Would have been a 15 yard penalty under today's rules. Glad it wasn't back then!

Chicken is one of the more underrated S's in Broncos history, imo. Not so much at CB, tho.

If I remember correctly, that was the defense's next to last play of the game. Denver had 3 of their 4 secondary starters out after that play.

John Mobley knocked down the pass on 4th and 10 on the next play.

Not at all. I just enjoyed watching football the way it was meant to be played, imo... Argh! Argh! Argh!

Correct; that was a scary scary moment, and if we want to view it in terms of the new rules, it's a strong argument for rather than against them. Personally, I still say deliberately putting the crown of ones helmet on another player—with or without launching—violates the very old spearing ban and should be penalized as such. If we enforce that old rule we won't need new ones (though legal plays like that pictured would still, regrettably and inadvertently, happen.) If we enforce rules selectively or not at all, more selectively enforced rules can't solve the core problem.

That was the next super bowl where that happened, right?

I can't be expected to keep track of all of Lewis' shankings.

No, it was the Titans-Rams Super Bowl in Atlanta.
