Recently signed. Played for Del Rio in Jax. So is Wolfe done for the year?

It probably does mean that Wolfe is going on IR. We'll find out soon.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Looking to bolster their defensive front, the Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with defensive end Jeremy Mincey.

AND

Derek Wolfe has not practiced since suffering what the Broncos called "seizure-like symptoms" on the team's Nov. 29 bus ride to the airport for the trip to Kansas City.

The Broncos could move Wolfe to injured reserve, but as of Monday team officials were still hopeful he could return for the postseason. Wolfe recently began working with strength and conditioning coaches.

Hmmmm.

As the article says, hopefully the chance to play for a contender in the playoffs will bring him around. Being late to meetings is a sure sign that he didn't want to be in Jacksonville any more.

But, probably a pretty low-risk move, with the potential of some reward.

Sounds to me like he was trying to get released.

I think I'd be grateful for my lot in life that I was able to be paid a bunch of money to play football, and I wouldn't do anything to mess it up.

People on here bash Dez Bryant for being a team cancer but apparently this scrub gets a pass because it was the Jags he quit on?

After signing a 20 million dollar contract? Probably not

Agreed. For a defense that doesn't always appear to play with the most intensity, I'm not sure this is the best piece to add to that.

Well...JDR knows him and he certainly has potential. I guess we'll see soon enough

Interesting; when Jax cut him I briefly wondered if we might sign him, before deciding I didn't want to chase my tail everytime any team (even one Del Rio used to coach) dumped a player. Honestly don't know how to feel, especially since it's starting to look like Del Rio's reassembling his old D as our new one (that unit was so good it's half the reason he got fired, after all.) If the guy was loafing, I agree that's the last thing this team needs (Del Rio said that's why he demoted Ayers in preseason 2012, but if we demote every loafer we won't have any start—oh....)

At this point of the season and with no idea if/when Wolfe returns—or even what's WRONG with him—my only real regret here is that it's DE instead of a DT. In Week 16 we're unlikely to get anyone much better than Ayers (who's pretty good, especially against the run) but one of the few places we might is from cuts by a team bad enough it's out of the playoff hunt and looking to shed some guys just sitting around taking up cap space at this point.

I guess we'll see, and it can't really hurt unless teams run at him and he blows a tackle, but it sounds more like Del Rio put a bug in Fox and Elways ear than Minceys.

Help is on the way for the Denver Broncos' injury-depleted 23rd-ranked defense.

The Broncos have agreed to terms with defensive end Jeremy Mincey, reuniting him with defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold reports.

Mincey was the Jaguars' top pass rusher in 2011 -- Del Rio's final season as Jacksonville head coach. The defensive end played well enough to earn a four-year, $20 million contract with $9 million in guaranteed money. He recently was released by Jacksonville after several missed team meetings led to his benching.

This is a sensible signing by Denver. Mincey started 32 consecutive games from 2011 to 2012, performing at his best in Del Rio's scheme.

from same article:

Once Derek Wolfe has recovered from seizure-like symptoms, the Broncos will have a quality rotation of defensive ends with Wolfe and Robert Ayers as run-stuffers, and Mincey and Shaun Phillips as pass-rushing specialists.

If Del Rio can also get cornerback Champ Bailey and linebacker Wesley Woodyard back to full health, this defense could make major strides in January.

With their need to plug holes in an injured defense, the Broncos brought in defensive end Jeremy Mincey for a visit Tuesday, according to two NFL sources. If Mincey passes his physical, he's expected to sign with the team, one source said.

According to another source, the team waived center J.D. Walton on Tuesday afternoon in anticipation of signing Mincey. Walton has been battling injuries and has not played in 2013.

I like the signing. A small risk for a potentially solid rotational player upfront. Surely JDR can light a fire under his butt.

Mincey has a ton of talent. That's not the problem. I have an issue with guys that sign a big contract with guaranteed money and become prima donnas and locker room cancers. He was one of those. Elway usually avoids guys with that kind of character. I trust Mr. Elway to make this call though. I'm sure he did his homework before signing him.

JD Walton hasn't been the same since that ankle injury. Neither has Chris Kuper. Why NFLers deserve every penny they get. No guarantees.

Sounds like he is gtg! The dude has started a lot of games and was good at one time and he already knows the defense. Brilliant. Good thing he was late for some meetings so he could get kicked off the team and come here to become a contributor. As long as he isnt a hell raiser or pot smoker, then its a great pick up

He said he had offers from New Orleans and Dallas -- "It's not like I was drowning." He said Denver "threw the best rope."

Lindsay Jones ‏@bylindsayhjones 46m

Mincey said he was lacking inspiration in Jax, felt like he was on a treadmill. Getting cut was like hitting the stop button and he fell.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a new guy smile as much in a locker room as much as Jeremy Mincey did today.

With a name like "Mincey" one would expect him to wear them 'round the clock—not that I'd make that joke within reach of him. ;)

We'll see what we'll see. I'd be kind of surprised if he plays this weekend, and was more concerned about Williams/Unrein replacing Big Vick (and finding decent rotational depth now that rotational depth is starting) than replacing Ayers. Still, as good as Ayers is against the run he's only so-so as a pass rusher, and I recall Del Rio demoted him from the starting job in preseason 2012 (ironically, making a milder form of the same criticism that got Mincey cut.) Again, unless guys are running over him it can't hurt us.

I must admit though, when Del Rio keeps signing guys from his old team it makes me think he was more than just a spectator at drafts a clueless GM thrust upon him. With that in mind, the notion of signing guys who weren't even good enough for the losing team Del Rio built in Jacksonville doesn't inspire me. Knighton's been good, but I can't help wondering if we're pushing our luck now. Again, we'll see what we've got soon enough, and it's certainly true we didn't lose much in a guy who went out with preseason injury and wasn't going to play even in rotation.

Huh. Well, reasonably likable there. Hope he can play. Pretty much a journeyman scouting report online. Originally a 6th Rd pick--so I am leery of the "tons of talent" description. Read he was so-so vs the run and lacked pass-rush moves but was very strong and high-motor. We will see. Guess they gave up nothing for him.

I'm hoping with all the talk from outside the organization saying he can't get it done will be motivation for him to turn it on. It's one thing to be believed in by your peers, but it's another thing to be motivated because ppl call you lazy and a huge bust.
