The Washington Capitals have confirmed Jose Theodore's two month old son has died.
"We are aware of the heartbreaking news," GM George McPhee said in a statement issued by the team. "At this time we ask that everyone respects the privacy of Jose and his family."
According to a friend of Theodore's, the boy had been diagnosed with respiratory complications since birth and passed away last week.
The goaltender and his wife have a three-year-old daughter, Remy, who also suffered from respiratory problems but has since recovered.
