ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – After a career-best performance in which he re-wrote the Broncos’ record books, wide receiver Eric Decker was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced on Wednesday.

Decker set a franchise record with four touchdown catches and finished with a career-best 174 yards on eight catches in Denver’s 35-28 win at Kansas City on Sunday.

“Once you start getting into a rhythm, you build some confidence,” Decker said after the game. “For me,
it’s getting into that rhythm. Have fun and just remembering that it’s football – that’s what I got back to today was just playing, letting things come to me, not forcing things.”

I keep hearing people say he's had a great year against everyone BUT us. According to Legwold, we moved DT all over the field in the first game just to shadow and abuse Cooper, which he repeatedly did all day. I can't speak to how he did against the rest of the Chiefs schedule, but a month ago it seems Pro Football Focus was tweeting that he "must enter DRoY discussion" (it's almost like they're TRYING to convince people they're idiots now.) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1837649-marcus-cooper-highlighting-the-nfls-most-quietly-impressive-rookie

Things have, um... changed the past month, and Peter King can chalk it up to half of KCs pass rush being missing in Justin Houston, but he was there in the Denver game and the first half of the SD game; didn't help: http://mmqb.si.com/2013/12/02/marcus-cooper-kansas-city-chiefs-denver-broncos-afc-west/

King says Suttons gameplan was "take away the underneath routes and give Manning the deep ball." Yeah, there's a reason good defenses don't do that with elite QBs, but I guess KC bought into all the "Peyton can't throw deep anymore." Awesome; too bad people won't be saying that anymore after Sunday—thanks a lot, Decker!

Nah, seriously though, Decker had an amazing game. He didn't carry the offense, because Manning obviously had to do his part getting the ball to Decker on some very precise and fast-moving passes, plus Moreno, DT, Ball and the pass blockers (not to mention the D) all did their job. Yet after a quite couple of months some would say Decker needed a "statement game" at least as much as KC did, and he definitely made a statement against (maybe about) them. Nice performance, nice team record; he earned his honors.

Eric Decker was a football-feeding machine to Bronco-clad fans Sunday at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium. After Decker caught a touchdown pass Sunday, he sought out a fan wearing a Broncos fan in the front row or two.

Decker had four touchdown catches so the stadium was filled with Decker-issued souvenirs (He did keep one touchdown ball).

I got an e-mail from one of the fans whose day was made by Decker. I think you’ll like it:

After Eric Decker's third touchdown in Kansas City on Sunday, he handed the ball to Broncos fan Cody Leonard of Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Nobody could have predicted the heartwarming story that would come from Decker's generosity and the profound effect his gesture had on a whole family.

Cody drove home elated, then received a call Monday that his grandfather in hospice wouldn't make it through the day. Cody took the ball to his grandfather and shared the story with family members in the room. The dying man touched the ball and passed away that night. There were smiles among the tears thanks to a football. The Broncos heard the story and Decker will gladly sign the ball for the Leonard family.

Cooper had a great year but check out the teams and all the back-up QBs KC played this year. KC were playing teams that did not have the capability to target Cooper. Once they played real teams with real WRs and QBs, Denver and S.D., they were finished. I look for RGIII to light them up as well.
