The Denver Broncos plan to sign former Baltimore Ravens and Oakland Raiders safety Michael Huff, according to a league source.
Huff was released by the Ravens after struggling in kick coverage against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was replaced as the starting free safety by rookie Matt Elam after being signed to a three-year, $6 million contract in March.

We need depth, and I'm guessing this is all this is. I can't imagine him starting, right?
Yeah, just depth.
Adams will start.

Who gets cut? Does Moore go on IR, maybe?
I read they were planning to put him on IR....

If this happens I'm guessing Moore is going to IR. I'm not a fan of Huff, he sucked as a Raider but i have faith in Elway and company.

I like the pick up. I've always liked Huff. He isn't the best, but he's adequate, IMO. If he learns the playbook, I think he's good enough to start. I don't think he will have to.

I haven't followed his play, but we need the depth, he was available and we needed a safety with Rahim out (I am assuming), seems like a reasonable pickup
Huff's always impressed me, but maybe I'm just overestimating him based on one huge play in one of the few college games I've ever watched. Not worried about our safety depth now though.

Huff was a BAMF in college, I think that caused a lot of people to overrate him. He's still solid, imo, good signing.

Per Legwold:
#Broncos will put Rahim Moore on IR, designated to return to add Huff to roster. They expect Moore back.
So that answers that. But doesn't "designated for return" require at least a certain amount of time on IR? When do they expect him back, the AFCG?

Same deal as McGahee last year.

Slightly different deal this year. This time the team will take care of business and get the win in the divisional round so he can actually return.

If you think it's irrelevant, then you might want to look back into last year. Not a fan of petty one-line rebuttals, but if that's what these boards are devolving into, then by all means.

Hopefully Huff becomes a steal. If not, cant wait to see Moore back out there.

Rahim is a pretty good FS, I don't think Adams can cover the ground that Rahim can, but he's still a pretty good replacement. Huff would be good depth. Hopefully he's still got the wheels. He ran a 4.3 at the combine.

Just saw it's offcial. Moore is headed to the IR. Huff will be a Bronco.

I had forgotten all about McGahee, probably because he never actually got the chance to come back :(

The shitty one-liners are best left to MO IMO. People imitate but can't match the original.

I agree you are WAY overestimating him and to boot you're doing it off of what he did in college.

I had to look it up; at first I thought you meant Huff teleported in front of receivers or something. I'll expect quality play from him if he sees the field though, yeah. Sometimes it feels like Denver's turning into an AFCW all star team; maybe if the Raiders cut McFadden for their new guy we can sign him, too.

The type of IR that Moore will go on is a temporary IR, not season ending. He now has to stay out 6 weeks and after that he can return.
So that would be our 1st playoff game and not the AFCCG. If we get 1st seed then that's even better for Moore, he would get an extra week of rest.

Rahim Moore on Tuesday was placed on the Broncos injured reserve list and in his place, Denver signed free-agent safety Michael Huff.
Moore on Monday underwent emergency surgery after being hospitalized and diagnosed with lateral compartment syndrome in his lower left leg.
Moore's IR status is designated to return — which means he must sit out six weeks. But he can come back for the final game of the season, if he's healed.

Huff was a stud in college and was a terrific DB early in his career but he is no longer fast and is pretty much just a hitter at this point. Like his Texas teammate Quintin Jammer, Huff isn't the stud he used to be but he's still capable of making plays and we need a savvy tough guy to compete against Gronk this week so it's a good pickup.

Yes Huff should have something left in the tank. he's only 30. 7th overall pick in 06. Maybe getting with fellow longhorn Jammer and the bronco winning environment will rejuvenate Huff. Damn sad about Rahim. They said it was from a direct blow to his lower leg Sunday but then read somewhere he was having leg pain in pregame. Anyone see the play where he got hit?

I doubt Moore will be back in 6 weeks. I have seen this I jury before by buddy had it in his thigh. It was crazy looking in photos. Took him several months to be back to normal. Figure in the ER they cut open skin over muscle to let it swell and then they fix it with skin graphing and stuff. But might get lucky with calf over thigh and quicker healing and being in peak shape. I hope so but have my doubts.

So does Moore's injury bring back the talk of Champ playing safety? Ideally you want your 4 or 5 best DB's on the field at any given time.

Huff sucked as a Raider, very inconsistent. I have faith in Elway and company but unlike most in this thread I'm not too excited in this signing other than adding depth.
So does Moore's injury bring back the talk of Champ playing safety? Ideally you want your 4 or 5 best DB's on the field at any given time. I really don't see that happening CH. Safety is one of our deepest positions, if not the deepest. IF Champ can play safety is an unknown at the point and it wouldn't make much football sense to insert an unknown in to a position where we have definite guys. Nacho will be a Pro Bowl caliber player in a year or two and Moore also has that potential. Adams and Bruton are really good depth guys. People forget Adams started for nine years in Cleveland.

I remember when OR was talking Huff up as one of the best safeties in the league and we all hated on him and shit all over his opinion; now Huff is a Bronco. Kind of ironic. But you never know. Maybe his talents weren't best utilized in those schemes and Denver could tap in to something the other guys couldn't. Time will tell.
