NEW YORK — The NBA has fined Knicks guard J.R. Smith for his Twitter exchange with Detroit Pistons guard Brandon Jennings.

The league says Friday's $25,000 penalty was for "directing hostile and inappropriate language to another player via his Twitter account."

Smith's latest social media flap — he also was fined $25,000 by the NBA last year for a racy tweet — started Wednesday after Jennings made a critical comment about Smith's little brother, Chris, who also plays for the Knicks.

Just heard on ESPN, that JR would only come back to the Knicks if they also signed his brother

How do they know it was J.R. who tweeted this and not his brother?

Yeah, he tried to get the Knicks to give his brother a roster spot.

But I don't care what anyone says about J.R., he's my boy. Dude is money on the court.
