Entering the game, the story was Phillip Rivers vs. Peyton Manning. The Broncos defense had other ideas. They limited Rivers to 218 yards and one touchdown pass on the day, which isn’t spectacular for a guy who has already thrown for 400 yards, twice this season.

Qualcomm Stadium was filled with Broncos fans. Some would even estimate that half of the fans in attendance were there to see the Broncos. With or without fans, the Chargers came to play and were dead set on not being embarrassed by a division rival.

The Chargers would rack up some serious time of possession in the first half and keep Peyton Manning on the sidelines for as long as possible. They would end the first quarter alone, owning over 14 of the 15 minutes allotted and even though Manning led the Broncos down to score three times, this strategy kept the game close enough for the Chargers to eventually come up with some stops in the second half and make it competitive.

The only drive the Broncos embarked on during the first quarter would last 52 seconds and end with a Peyton Manning 74 yard touchdown pass to Julius Thomas. The Chargers couldn’t keep the ball forever though. DT caught two more touchdown passes in the second quarter, good for 7 and 11 yards, respectively.
