The idea was born in a conversation Sunday morning between Gov. John Hickenlooper and his 11-year-old son, Teddy: Wouldn’t it be great if the Broncos could help raise money for flood victims on “Monday Night Football,” when Denver takes on division rival Oakland.

But whether the plea will air remains up in the air Monday afternoon.

To sweeten the deal, Hickenlooper said John Elway, Peyton Manning and head coach John Fox had agreed to appear to ask for donations.

“We always do the right thing whenever we go some place,” Tirico told Colorado Morning News’ April Zesbaugh.

An ESPN spokesman said Monday afternoon that the Monday night game would include three segments about the flooding: photos of the telethon that the Broncos were involved with last week, video of flooded areas outside Boulder and video of Army National Guard members who were among the first-responders.

Bill Hofheimer, ESPN’s senior director of communications, said in an e-mail that the segments would be spread across three of the four quarters.

“We will also run a call to action to the Red Cross in the lower third of the screen to help raise donations and awareness of relief efforts,” he said.
