ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- At the University of Wisconsin, Montee Ball wore No. 28 as he became the NCAA's career touchdown leader, racking up more than 5,000 rushing yards in the process.

Now, Ball will wear his college number with the Broncos.

The rookie, who previously wore No. 38 after he was drafted, has switched to No. 28.

That number's previous owner -- safety Quinton Carter -- will now wear No. 38.

The other jersey updates entering Week 1:

Edwin Baker: No. 35
Brandon Marshall: No. 54
Adrian Robinson: No. 57
C.J. Anderson: No. 22

On Sunday, three other players changed their numbers:

Steve Vallos: No. 60
Paris Lenon: No. 51
Quanterus Smith: No. 93

I didnt buy one...but I know many did already. Dont players have to pay the NFL to switch numbers?

Wow, really? Buying a jersey of a second round RB who hasn't even taken a snap yet seems like a risky move. (Says the guy who bought a Tebow jersey right after the draft)

Ravage!!!

I don't think the players have to pay the NFL for switching jerseys. It's not their fault that they aren't given a specific number, or one isn't available. Example, what if the number the player preferred was given to another player, that wasn't cut until the last cuts? He's not responsible for that number becoming available, and shouldn't have to pay for switching.

I actually don't even regret buying it. I got it really cheap and it was fun to have during that playoff season. Honestly, the worst thing about it was people thinking I was just some bandgon Tebow homer when I was wearing it.

I'll always remember when Tatum Bell met the Denver media after he was drafted and mentioned he'd like to have the same number he had while at Oklahoma St. Somebody had to explain to him that number 7 was already retired.

If he's good it could be a collector's item.

Yeah, but you could still probably just make a personalized "Ball 38" jersey if you wanted.

Quanterus Smith got his college number too. I was wondering when they would announce the players that switched numbers. Seems to happen every year after the final cuts are made. As for Ball, maybe he'll begin to play more like he did in college now that he has his old number.

I liked seeing Ball in 38.

93 is a cool DE number.

I always liked 23. So I hope Jammer steps up.

Is this somewhattongue in cheek?

I can't see that happening this year unless Denver's top three beat up; but next year he just might be challenging these guys for playing time.

...especially if Moreno is gone.

Not at all. I've been a fan of CJ as a good UDFA candidate since before the draft and was ecstatic when we signed him. I wont say it will happen this year as I'm sure Fox and Co. will live and die by Ball and Hillman...but eventually, I can see CJ winning the spot.

Personally, I dont see Ball or Hillman as starters on very many teams and I think Moreno would be our best option as a starter right now. Hopefully I'm wrong
