Took it game-by-game on how I think they might do each week. Looks like 11-5.

I had loosely predicted somewhere between 10-6 and 6-10. 10-6 still seems
a little high, and 6-10 a bit low. So I think I'll consider myself wrong on a
couple games here and declare a 9-7 for the year . . .

I see us being The Broncos- meaning we will lose some games that really should have been won. Totally embarrassing and the fan base will rise up and call for Josh M's head. But then the team will come together and click perfectly at the oddest moments and beat the BEST teams that NO ONE but the blindest homer would ever have called us winning.

In other words, I don't think much will have changed since the Plummer years. Or even the early Elway years.

I'll call the individual games as they come up. I don't have a feel for any of them yet.

My prediction is 6-10. I am sorry we are worse on offense and are pretty unsettled
due to turmoil etc.

Our D is a bit better. Oh well.

I hope I am wrong though. I will root for our team no matter what but do not feel very confident

dogfish
09-06-2009, 12:00 PM
Chris Baker will force his way into a significant role in the D-line rotation, and prove that he's our most talented lineman despite some typical rookie struggles adjusting to the position.

Our aging secondary will run out of gas down the stretch unless youngsters like Williams, Smith, McBath, Bruton or Barrett end up playing extended minutes.

Peyton Hillis will catch 50+ passes-- and if he doesn't, Josh should be smacked in the head. Hard.

Our offense will bring up some unwanted comparisons to the past few years when we move the ball with ease between the twenties, but don't convert enough trips to seven when we get in the red zone due to poor execution (penalties and turnovers) and bad play calling.

Jarvis Moss will make a play. . . sometime.

None of the rookies besides Knowshon will win a starting role on their own merit, only due to injury or incompetence from the vet ahead of them.

DJ Williams and Dumervil will be all over the place.

We'll generate a little more pass rush than we have the past two seasons, but the run defense will be soft right up the middle and it'll hurt us all year.

Kyle Orton and Ronald Fields will both be classified as "not the answer" at two of our most important positions by the end of the year.

Tom Brandstater will start at least two games.

Eddie Royal will establish himself as one of the game's top receivers.

Matt Prater won't fade as badly down the stretch this time.

Spencer Larsen will challenge Andra Davis for playing time by November.

4-12 ...It's gonna be ugly

Lonestar

actually While I'm thinking 6-8 this year it is because of the schedule.. we all know That many teams we see as perennial powers will take a dump from time to time..

I think we will lose those 10 games but few if any will be blow outs like we have seen the past few years..

we will not lose any trap games like we have for over a decade.. this team will come ready to play each week and HOPEFULLY the game plans will be adjusted to counter their weak spot son I and there strengths on D..

It do not think we will be a pasty at home like we have been .. hopefully the 12th man will show up more than since invesco was built..

I think less of the social fans will show up and more of the old timer fans will come around to boost there team..

we will be more competitive and our defense still may be in the lower third of the averages it will get better as the year goes on.. as should the Offense as they get the new scheme..

so worst is 4-10 with the "I" word hits like last year..

or best is 8-8 if everything melds together.. we are still some players away from fielding a great D..

I have been saying 6 and 10 all along and I will stick with it though the trouble with Marshall, if it continues, might make that too positive. I am hoping that defense can compensate for the lack of offensive scoring making this pick too low. Either way we will soon see if the Broncos have what it takes or if they were taken.

Excellent summary and I'm sure a lot of us expect much of that to happen. Thanks for taking the time and thought to put it together.

I'm really liking the addition of Vonnie Holliday. Older yes, but will be used in rotation to keep our D-Line fresh. I expect pressure on all three downs and all throughout the game.

My biggest concern is our two middle linebackers. In particular Andre Davis. I have seen too many opposing players just sidestep him and he's left trying to tackle air. That and I feel that D.J. Williams is better at pursuit tackling rather than attack tackling. That means more 5-12 yard runs than I'd like.

I'm hopeful that Orton will play well but he hasn't convinced me yet with his preseason performance.

I'm not that impressed with Barrett. I hope he gets better, but I think he'll contribute mainly in the kicking game.

I hope you're correct that none of our rookies except Knowshon will win a starting role on their own merit. They SHOULD be backing up the veterans this year, learning their trade, and excell in future years.

My expectation is that this years team is slightly more good than bad. I predicted 9-7, and I'm hoping for 10-6 or better. I believe that McDaniels will continue his streak of winning seasons, whether that means playoffs or not, we'll have to wait and see.

yes they could be a real shocker.. but so far I do not see them beating NE, or PIT might beat San at home..

While I think they are better on D than last year.. I do not see the team being consistent enough o beat them..

I didn't get in on this thread, but before the season I was predicting 7-9. Maybe 6-10.

Don't want to hide the fact that I was wrong.

WHY I was so wrong? The offense is about what I expected: a drop-off from last year, but the Defense is giving up only 11 points a game!

The 2000 Ravens gave up 10.3 points a game. The 2002 Bucs gave up 12 points a game. 12.5 points a game = 200 points in a season.

Five teams since the 1985 Bears have held opponents to less than 200 points in a season. Three of them won the SB.

'85 Bears -- SB Champion
'86 Bears -- lost in "fog-bowl" to SB Champ Giants (game was played in such heavy fog nobody could see anything).
2000 Ravens -- SB Champions -- 166 points is modern NFL record
2000 Titans -- lost in playoffs to SB Champ Ravens
2002 Bucs -- SB Champs

The Broncos defense is currently on pace to surrender 176 points, which would be second best ALL TIME since the NFL went to the 16 game schedule (and the modern pass-interference rules went into effect).

That's pretty good company.

Can the Broncos D continue like this? Who knows? But if they keep opponents from scoring more than an average of 12.5 points a game, they will be in ELITE company. And most of those teams won the SB or came close.

Uh, can I get a do-over? 9-7 seems a little pessimistic right now. :salute: :defense::first:

Especially after Smith turns into a pro bowl corner and the ducks overpay a bust

He has looked good thus far. Hopefully our #1 is the 32nd overall pick!!!

could now by 15-1 or down to 12-4 as we speak .. as it looks right now the chances of losing all of those initial losses from this point on is 50-50 the KVC game scares me the most sandwiched in between NYG and INDY I find it hard to beleive we will be mentally ready for that game..

Hey J it's OK. I didn't write which I thought were W and L but I had the same picks with a 6 -10. I have never been so happy to be WRONG!!!

The offense is about what I expected: a drop-off from last year

How so?

Here are our stats from last year and this year....can you guess which is which??

Rushing YPG = 133 vs. 116
Passing YPG = 236 vs. 279
Points per game = 22 vs. 23

Seems pretty even to me...and our offense appears to be improving as the season goes on whereas last year our offense regressed dramatically through the season.

hey before they were a slam dunk LOSS, now we have a chance to win or lose those games..

only a few die hard koolade drinkers were predicting any thing past 8-8..

IF and that is a BIG IF this team does not stumble or have the "I" word happen this is heads above where I thought it would be..

after watching the team in Preseason I saw potential but with this scheme being what it is I figured we would be lucky to win any games prior to the bye..

the DL should not be worth a crap we all know that.. three nobodies and some questionable backups WTF happened.. ATTITUDE and TEAM work.. did anyone really see this 6-0 happening? I did not think so.. no one anywhere saw this team being a top 10 defense let alone being top 3.. most thought it would be more in the lines top 15..

what we are seeing is Players, playing above themselves and being in condition to do so.. believing in the SCHEME.. all from a kid Coach.. talk about buying into the idea..

yep I'm covering myself.. because while I'm seeing it, it has to be some other team on the field..

After watching mikes broncos for 14 years we all know there is a HUGE stumble coming..

Well I had them losing first and winning last, so switch that up and I got it right!

I also had us losing huge at first because of the massive changes.. and winning a few towards the end of the season because the easy games were there.. that was really a bad guess..
