View Full Version : Nate Irving to get "first crack" at Broncos' spot at middle linebacker

About the only time the Broncos defense played as if it didn't belong on the same field as the opposing defense last season was Week 5 at New England.

Utilizing what Denver defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio referred to as the "NASCAR approach," Patriots quarterback Tom Brady engineered a warp-speed offense that got off 89 plays in a 31-21 loss.

Lucky for the Broncos, no other team used the high-speed attack against them, probably because no other team has Tom Brady. But Del Rio doesn't think he's seen the last of it.

I like this part: "He's a bright guy. He's naturally a strong-handed guy, a thick guy. He can move....." Sounds like Irving works for the mob and will be dispensing pain on a regular basis!

Awesome. I hope he can fill that void. I loved what he did in college.

This is Jeff Legwold's opinion (DP staffer) from an article in the DP today:

Because the Broncos are in the nickel so often — about 64 percent of the time last season — in addition to their snaps in the dime, the middle linebacker spot is essentially a situational position at this point and not a place where the Broncos would be looking to add a high-priced veteran to a multiyear deal.

It's a complete cluster. Denver has decided to not have anyone call plays on defense...

Whoever is closest to the sideline after a play will get the next play directly from JDR and run into the huddle with it

Maybe they can get Chip Kelly to come in and teach them the sign board play calling method.

Probably be easier to just draw it up in the dirt

Probably Wolfe. He is the token whitey in the bunch and therefore likely the smartest
