View Full Version : Osweiler Taking Command in Year Two

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The first full offseason after a rookie campaign is an important one for any player.

For a quarterback tagged as the heir apparent behind Peyton Manning, it's all the more crucial.

That's why Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase has been so happy with what he's seen from Brock Osweiler entering his second season in the NFL.

“I can see him taking another step as far as his command of the offense -- him being able to communicate with guys as far as, ‘Hey, this is what I need from you here,’" Gase said. "You can see him kind of working that way already on the field. When you’re a young guy, there are a lot of things going on, and he’s eliminated, ‘Well, is this guy supposed to be lined up here? Is this guy motioning?’ He’s not doing that anymore. It’s quicker for him. If somebody screwed up this year, he can fix it, and I think he’s taken a big step this year so far in Phase Two (of the club's offseason conditioning program).”

But he hasnt faced any competition yet.

;)

Actually he has, just 'Certain' unnamed fans believe otherwise. This whole time he's been competing with Elway, Fox, the Management and Coaching staff, not to mention his teammates and Manning himself as to their idea of a franchise quarterback and eventual successor. And thus far Fox, Elway and Gase have praised what they've seen in him in that aspect. He's been competing, just not in the way some particular, cancerous, divisionists among the fandom would like...of course, most of them are former Tebowites that can not process the fall of their deity-like hero who has become another unemployment statistic.

You're right, we should just hang our heads, criticism Elway and the front office for even making any draft picks at all, and then scream TRADE PICKS FOR PROVEN PLAYERS every year when the draft comes around, because all of those players in the draft haven't shown anything, earned anything, or proven anything. I mean, the NFL draft. Where teams get to draft the absolute best college players out there who haven't played a down in the NFL. What a laughable and ridiculous notion.

I've seen enough in him to believe he has the ability to be a franchise quarterback and the experience enough not to question those better then myself (in this case, you) who actually have or have had solid careers based on such evaluations or in near equal aspects of a position in which they have done such. He is not being warranted a damn thing, you just seem to believe you have the entitlement to judge when you are but a speck in the ointment or another bug on the windshield and what you think matters about as much as a steaming pile of horse crap.

If you're meaning Dysert is being brought in to specifically challenge Osweiler because Elway and Fox are not sold on him I seriously doubt it. If they felt that strongly about Dysert and are seriously concerned about Osweiler there is reason to wait don't wait until the 7th round to guy that was by most accounts as mid round pick. I would bet dollars to cold dog turds that Dysert is being brought in to push Osweiler but not to supplant him.

and as a guy that seems to have the "physical tangibles"... nothing wrong with bringing in a guy that COULD develop into something unexpected. Hell, if he develops into a GOOD back-up, than that's well worth the 7th round pick.

Brock is the future, but it doesnt mean he wont have to earn it by showing them his progress. I dont know how many times i have to explain it too you. RGIII, Luck, they all were the the favored QB's taking over the franchises and were handed the reigns from day one. Brock will be the leading candidate to take over after Manning retires. Thats why he was drafted, just like thats why RGIII and Luck were drafted. Yet those guys never had competition either. Why do you believe that only Brock needs competition and no other young starting QB in the league does? Do you really just troll on this subject for the sake of trolling?

And what we keep trying to tell your dumb ass, is that it's not that big of a ******* deal.

Besides, that's not even the correct quote...

"It's a perfect situation where there's not pressure for him to come in and start right away. He's not ready for that. But he's also going to learn from Peyton and...I think it's a great learning experience for him to where we are set for the future. And he's our guy for the future. And sometimes we have to sacrifice the short-term for the long-term to grab the guy that you believe can be that next guy for you, and that's Brock Osweiler."

Meaning, we're going to take our shot with Osweiler, but it's obviously not the be all end all.

And it's not a dire situation like you paint it to be.

Next time, for the first time actually, quote something correctly.

"We saw him on the bench learning from one of the best QB's of alltime. We're you expecting to beat out a future HOF'r as the starter? Really? You cant be this stupid. "
yet another example of how the CCO must type outragious bullshit and tyry and pin it to zam to fuel their poor excuse of an arguement.
this is what happens when blinding hostility overcomes reason and rational thought.
some BOR occupants cant just have a discussion, it ALWAYS has to turn personal and ugly.

My argument is valid. No one who has ever paid attention to football knows why Peyton spent more time with the team last year but apparently you missed that bus somewhere. But your correct Zam, i need to quit trying to explain or discuss anything with you because you either flip flop on your stance or you simply dont answer the questions being asked. MO hit it on the head, you just spew the same rhetoric without even presenting a valid or common sense argument to support it. Its easy to know why guys like RGIII and Luck are playing right now and who Brock isnt. Even a 5 year old could figure that out but somehow you cant or as i said just continue to bait and troll. But, at this point its not even your fault, its mine. I had you on ignore for a while because of this same kind of weak ass shit that you continue to drivel on this board. Well, back to ignore you go. I hate to do it because i like to or hope to have thoughtful discussions on stuff but you just dont bring anything to the table. Peace. \m/

The guys you mention, showed justification for their SELECTION and EARNED thier positions as #1 QBs in practice and on gameday.
their college careers, gave indication and justification to their ROLS.
what has brock done?
honestly?
he started 7 college games.
that is his entire college career... 7 games.
What did we see from brock last year, really.
If JFE is cvalling his sons college roomate our FUTURE, forgive n me for wanting to see some tangeable performance on a game day field.
excuse me !

Well that goes to show the level of your knowledge right there, please explain to me how he started on seven games when he's actually started twice that according to the NCAA? Or do you just like pulling shit out of your ass, hoping to be right about something in which your looking like an obviously clueless fan who feels that players need to be justified through his own developed opinion. I mean, we all await your judgment and formed opinion on Brock, we all lose sleep over what the outcome you develop and form, even Elway is on pins and needles waiting for what you think on the matter...(yeah right).

By the way, he in one year of being the starter had better numbers then Tom Brady in either his junior and senior season, had a better completion percentage, more touchdowns and more yards. Actually, I've compared Osweiler's junior season to the top quarterbacks in the league, he outplayed several of them in that same time frame of their collegiate careers. He threw for more yards then Luck, Rivers, Manning, Favre and so forth. Stafford came out his junior year and was a first round pick, Osweiler had better numbers in almost every category, give three more interceptions - I guess it's a fluke, and Mayock was mistaken saying that he could be a legit franchise quarterback and the only reason he is not in the first round is because RGIII and Luck were more polished, he was rawer compared to them, but that he was a better draft prospect the Weeden who was drafted before him.

How about you admit you just don't know shit and your opinion, like I said earlier means absolutely squat?

Yea, i was going to go there but its like talking to a wall. At the end of the day Brock was drafted where he was projected to go. Its not like Denver reached on a 5th round prospect here. They took a guy slated to go in the 2nd round and thats what they did.

Yeah.. I've tried to make this point in the past with other QBs as well. "We need to see him so WE can see what he can do!!" Nooo. WE don't need to see anything at all, you just WANT to see. The coaches can see all they need to see at practice.

Wow, that was quite the mouth full.

I guess they saw enough in those 7 games, interviews, and what not.

You really only need to see Usain Bolt once to know what you've got. It's not like the extra races give you new information.

I'm not big on entitlement and nepotism or w/e either, but why be the fly biting the horse's ass about it?

As pointed out earlier, he actually started 15 games in three separate seasons and played in 25 games altogether.

Once again, Zam cites stats that aren't true and arguments that are devoid of logic. Kind of how he misquotes executives and coaches, takes quotes and entire chapters of books out of context and cites articles that don't even exist to support arguments that barely make sense...

One of the examples I can think of in Osweiler's "7 game career" is how he beat Kiffin's USC defense where Luck seemed to struggle. That's just from memory.

I honestly have no idea what it is about this quote that drives Zam up a wall, it gets me excited and I hated the pick.

I find it interesting that this time last year we had a QB that was anointed the number one QB. Nobody knew if PFM could play or survive a game or a season. Only the trolls said it was a bad FA signing. The rest of us had hope. That hope has turned into optimism. We have two years (I think) with PFM. During this time we have two or maybe three young QBs that can learn from one of the best during the season and one of the best QBs in JFE. I think that creates even more optimism. Somewhere deep down in me cannot wait to see how this all plays out. But, I will patiently wait and enjoy the last few seasons with Manning.

As for Os, I have spent a lot of time in Phoenix with work. As a CU fan, I was able to see the CU v ASU game in Brock's last season. Since CU was and is down I enjoyed the games by watching the individual players on both team. ASU had a very average team in Brock's final season, but I was impressed with his physical strength, size and arm. I watched two games that year down in Tempe with two ASU fans and a Arizona fan. I heard a lot of praise of both Os and Foles. When watching the CU v Arizona game I found that I was disappointed if Foles based on the build up from Arizona fan. A very poor CU team beat Arizona. Before last years draft my father and I discussed the possibility of Denver drafting a QB. I though Os would be the best pick in the second round. My father thought that Wilson would be a better choice in a later round. I liked for the reasons I stated and I like that he was very young. My father is a Baseball fanatic and Rockies homer and liked the connection between Wilson and the Rockies. I like Wilson but I still stand by Os as the best choice.

And those that say we have not seen Os in action. I agree and disagree. During last years training camp I was working on multiple projects in Aurora, Parker and over to Lone Tree. My lunch breaks would be at Dove Valley. I saw a lot of training camp. Watching Manning was fun, but I enjoyed watching the other guys. Os showed a great arm even though he was working on his mechanics. Weber was good and would have been a good future back-up (See Kubiak). The pre-season games did not show much of any of the QBs. Payton was rusty in my opinion but did show some good things. The rest of the QBs showed little as all (except Weber) had to learn a new system. When the season started we saw PFM and Os only. A lot of people hear say all that Os did was handoff or take a knee. I believe that he did pass four times in the KC game. I like what I saw although it was a small sample size.

Dysert is interesting and I hope he turns into a 10+ year NFL pro either as a started or back-up. I admit that I did not go out of my way to follow Miami of Ohio. He does look like he has a good skill set.

What I have come to realize is that no draft choice is a sure thing. There were questions about Elway, Luck, RG3, both Mannings coming into the NFL. We could name many high draft picks that worked out and ones that have failed. We can name many late round draft choices or UFAs that have become pro bowlers or more importantly Super Bowl Champions.

I choose to wait and see what will happen. No matter what the outcome is I will remain a Bronco Fan. Now, enough with my rambling.

Its just because it wasnt THEIR pick.

I predicted we would take Oz but i have no crystal ball of whether or not he will be a great QB. But, he's in the perfect position to learn and has the build and arm strength to get it done. Couldnt ask for a better situation for a young QB to be in.

By the time he steps in to play, Deck and Thomas will presumably be in their prime. The running back situation should be better in Denver than it has in years. The defense should be in good shape as well.

Even if the kid busts, Denver will still have a strong core on all sides of the ball. Elway is building for the future and the now. I think Zam believes that if RG3 or Luck were on the board you still would have taken Oz. It's Oz's team for the rest of his time in the NFL. The keys belong to Oz.

Zam believes in conspiracy theories and such. Denver did their due diligence with the Osweiler pick, they looked at Foles, Weeden, Luck, Griffin and a number of other quarterbacks and Osweiler jumped to the top of their boards. It's not like Jack Elway pushed for Brock to be drafted by Denver, but there is a connection between Osweiler and Denver, beyond Jack. His coach was and is a long-time friend to both the Bowlen and Elway families, nearly becoming the head coach of the Broncos before Shanahan agreed to take the job. So, they know who coached him, like what they saw in him and his tangibles and then drafted him...last I checked, that is how the freaking draft worked. Would they have taken Luck or Griffin over him? Most likely, Elway even gushed and rambled on about Griffin before the combine...but Brock still was atop their list come the draft and they got him.

He would have been a first round pick this year, Arizona even thought about taking him with the 13th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft or trading down and nabbing him in the first round later, and they didn't have a second round pick or they'd have gotten him before Denver had a shot, instead they took Lindley later in the draft because Osweiler was gone. And they could have taken Foles but they had no interest in him, that is saying something IMHO.
