Last year, Nike replaced Reebok as the official apparel provider for the NFL.
Shortly after Nike took over, they unveiled new uniforms for a majority of the 32 teams in the NFL prior to last year's draft. Since then, Nike has continued to modernize the look of uniforms across the league.
But not all of Nike's uniform alterations have been well-received.
Many of Nike's uniform designs included a contrasting-colored Flywire collar, a look that received mixed reviews. Personally, I think the collar design looks terrible.
That look was implemented in the Denver Broncos' uniform—their home collars are half-blue and half-orange, and their away collars are half-blue and half-white.
Denver's collar may be changing to all-blue this fall.
Over at DenverBroncos.com (and possibly elsewhere on the web), Nike has been displaying an ad featuring wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. In the ad, Thomas' collar is all-blue.
This may have just been a Photoshop job by Nike to give the graphic a cleaner look—the uniform looks much better. Or, it may be a foretelling of what Denver's collar will look like in 2013.
Besides the collar, Denver’s most notable uniform change installed by Nike in 2012 was orange home jerseys, a look the team sported from 1962 until 1997, when blue was made the team’s dominate home color.
The Broncos went on to win a pair of Super Bowls in the blue jerseys, but in 2011, fans started an online petition to the team requesting that they return to their orange roots. Denver took notice, and their home jersey returned to orange in 2012.
The Broncos have had an alternate orange jersey since 2002, which is very similar to their current look. The most notable difference? The current collars are not solid blue.
Those blue collars may be returning this fall, judging from the looks of Nike’s spot featuring Thomas.
When I reached out to the team's PR department about the ad, they said not to look too far into it, but also added that Nike has been "experimenting" with several teams uniforms.
If this is a preview of what Denver's collar will look like this season, in my opinion, it is a big improvement.
