I really wanted an edge rusher (Damontre Moore) and I think Lacy is the best halfback, but I'm okay with Ball too.

The reason Lacy is falling is because the amount of injuries and because he's struggled to pass physicals with individual teams. So I am glad the Broncos passed on him then, we don't need a JaMarcus Russell at the halfback position.

Ziggy
04-26-2013, 07:26 PM
Solid pick. Ball is the best pass protector in the draft, he's an every down back, has a nose for the endzone and he doesn't turn the ball over.

Some analysts think Lacy's the Rashan Salaam of the RB class. Salaam was the
University of Colorado Heisman trophy winner who never amounted to anything
in the Pros. They attributed that to CU's superior offensive line, which theyt
think may be responsible for Lacy's success. So there may be more to the
story than what meets the surface.

I would say Montee Ball selection is not good news for RB Willis McGahee.

That's 55 TDs and 3,753 rushing yards past 2 seasons for Montee Ball. Goodness.

Rejoice Bronco transplanted Cheeseheads: Montee Ball past 2 seasons at Wisconsin: Sr: 1,830 yards, 22 TDs; Jr: 1923 yds, 33 TDs.

Question about Lacy is how much of his production was Lacy and how much was his OL? Just like Ball. His linemen got drafted last year and his numbers fell off some.

DID YOU KNOW?
• Montee Ball became the NCAA's career touchdown leader (83) with a 17-yard run at Penn State on Nov. 24
• Ball tied Barry Sanders' NCAA record with 39 touchdowns in 2011. That was more TDs than 42 FBS teams had last year
• Ball led the NCAA is rushing yards (1,923) and yards from scrimmage (2,229) in 2011

Question about Lacy is how much of his production was Lacy and how much was his OL? Just like Ball. His linemen got drafted last year and his numbers fell off some.
Yup. That was a long time ago. Obviously, I had long since forgotten how to spell it.

A little questioning with the Ball pick. He isn't projected to be a 3 down back in the NFL because he isn't at all a receiving threat. I think he's simply a product of his oline playing in a very weak defensive conference.

You're way off here Silk. He had 55 receptions the last 2 seasons and has very good hands. There's nothing that Ball doesn't do well. He holds onto the Ball, has a nose for the endzone, runs with power, has good vision, pass protects better than any back in this draft, and can bounce it outside. He's absolutely an every down back, and a great fit for a no huddle offense. The only concerns with him is mileage and injury history.

Yeah... a 4.6. I don't have any animosity toward the kid, and dont' dislike him for the college he attended or anything. So I'm certainly rooting for him. But a 4.6....and breaking away from some of the college guys looks great on a highlight reel. The Broncos were in the market for a running back in this year's NFL draft and Friday came up with one of college football's marquee names: record-setting tailback Montee Ball of Wisconsin.

Ball, 5-foot-10 and 214 yards, rushed for 1,830 yards in 2012 and set an NCAA record with 83 career touchdowns, including 77 rushing. For his career, Ball netted 5,140 yards on the ground on 924 carries.

He said he looks forward to playing with Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.

"I grew up watching the Broncos; they were my favorite team," Ball said via a teleconference with media covering the Broncos.

Big 10 defense...sucks. He played well against ohio state and stanford. Stanford had a top 5 rushing defense in the nation, and last year his blocking was below average. In 2011 he had great blocking, in 2012 bad blocking and no other offensive weapons, he was almost only threat. Just a question btw why do you keep changing reasons why he isn't that good? Do you just want a reason to criticize about him?

I agree with silk on this. You can't use a guy's highlight reel as some sort of "proof" that the guy is a good prospect. I can make a great highlight reel of EVERYONE if y ou give me the game footage. I put it to music, then have one or two plays and put them in slow motion. Throw in EVERY run that goes for positive yards.

I remember when Q was a Bronco and I said the same thing about his speed. I said, great highlights, but the he's slow. Now, he WAS slow, and always got caught from behind. But highlight reels aren't exactly "objective." I suppose that you could take the same footage and make a "low light" reel as well and make the case on how bad a player is.

Remember there were some fans that were upset with the Clady pick because someone had made a "low light" reel?

Texans are on the clock so, naturally, they go to commercial. It's gotta be in someone's contract somewhere.

B.W. Webb.

Calling it now.

Defensive line, running back and cornerback in the first three rounds, per John Elway.

I don't understand this thought that CB is such a need. Champ, DRC, Harris, Carter, and Bolden is this dude any better than any of these guys. Just don't get it. If anything in the Defensive Backfield needs upgraded its the Safties.

The average draft grade of the third round right now is about 71.0, Kayvon Webster's grade is 52.0, this is a knee jerk reaction if I ever saw one. This is a Shanahan-esque pick!

Drc is one year contract and Harris is too. Carter is not that great, and bolden needs to develop, if he hopes to be a number two. Champ will be gone in 2 years tops. W need a cb. Rhodes was supposed to be the man but the Vikings messed that up. Those mother ******s!

We don't know that. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt right now, since

I have a hard time judging Elway on the kinds of picks, he has been stellar so far.

Usually they draft pretty solidly, but not a fifth round graded corner in the third with far better cornerbacks on the board...this is a stupid F'n move and this is where the lack of a true G.M. to balance Elway out may come to bite us in the ass...

I am not going off the deep end, I've seen this shit before though Top as have you. We've seen it with Shanahan and with McDaniels. This was made because their top corners were off the board so they reached, I would be okay if I felt that he was a solid fourth rounder. But he likely would have lasted till the fifth round with the other corners still on the board.

Scouts, Inc., gave him a 69, and had him as the 15th best CB, fourth best on the board when picked.

Elway is not Shanny or McDaniels. Cane, 15 of Elway's first 16 picks are still
with the team. I have no doubt at all that Williams and Ball will make it 17 of
18. As I said elsewhere, I am scratching my head over this one. But I'm not
in the war room. I'm willing to give them a pass on this one until I see for sure

No. You're using a highlight reel to justify the player's talents. I think that's kind of the joke. OMG I am tired of hearing about this! Maybe you watch highlight reels but try going to draftbreakdown.com to see every run he made in a game, so you can quit whining and bitching about highlight reels, not everybody watches highlight reels and actualy know what they are taking about.

You know what the hell bothers me, we're here watching teams like Baltimore, San Francisco, Houston, Seattle, etc. get better in rushing the passer and we've drafted Sly Williams inside but are ignoring the other end position except maybe signing an over their prime veteran. Well and obviously drafting a G.O.A.T defensive back as well. I don't mind the kid, but he could have been had much later and we're losing out on defensive ends when it's a bigger need and not to mention better graded players.
