Another 13-3 season.
I really dont care too much how our regular schedule ends up, as long as we win all of our play-off games.

I did horribly at this last year, but will say 11±1 wins. Hard to say; you never know which Cowboys team will show up for a game, and sweeping ANY division is so hard I doubt we can do it two years straight even if the Chiefs still haven't figured out how to turn lots of talent into a winning season. We ought to win at least 4 though, 2 more against the NFCE and 2 against the AFCS. I think we win the Mile High rematch against a badly depleted Ravens team we should've beat in January. Managing another win against one division would get us to 10; managing 2 would get us to 11.

Like you say though, I couldn't care less about the regular season as long as we win playoff games. Think the Ravens care they lost 6 games last year?

The only games that bug me are @New York, New England, and KC in December so 13-3 is feasible, but I will say 12-4. Its like they gave us this schedule for the storylines. Ravens Revenge Game opening night of the season, Manning Bowl Week 2, Manning vs Colts and the Return of Shanny to Mile High before the BYE week? Hell even Del Rio gets a shot at his old team.

The thing I love about this schedule though is the palette cleansing game in week 1. Just get it out of the way. That game still makes me sick. I can't wait to make the Ravens 0-1 to start off 2013. Its like exorcising a demon and then moving on. As far as I'm concerned the season doesn't start for us until the playoffs. Everything until then I will enjoy but I need to see a playoff win to get really excited.

I don't like the road schedule. Giants, Cowboys, Texans, Colts and Pats will all be at least somewhat difficult. I wish we had either the Jags or Titans on the road, and the Colts or Texans at home, but there's nothing to be done about that.

Home schedule on the other hand is quite easy. The only two challenges there are the Ravens and Redskins, and to be honest, I expect to win both. 8-0 at home isn't out of the question, though there's always a random loss that no one expects.

I'll say 12-4. One division loss somewhere, one of the NFC East teams on the road, one of the AFC South also on the road and ... maybe the Pats, though I hate to say it.

week two we face the toughest defender JFE ever faced in his career,
THE WIND IN THE MEADOWLANDS !
I dont know how effective PFMs fluttering passes are going to do when that wind blows.
I hope we have a reliable, utilized run game, or this game is in doubt.
Its also a shame we dont get the pats match-up earlier in the season when they would be more vulnerable.

That's all the NFL is now; did you see who won the SB? A team with Tebow II at QB and a defense on Hoverounds. They floundered their way through the regular season, squeaking out the unusually weak AFCNs division title, but the NFLs posterchild for reformed killers announced his retirement at the start of the playoffs and it was effortless from there. When todays coaches congratulate players for "this weeks impressive performance" they seem to be talking more about dramatics than athletics. Hence the growing number of rule changes to facilitate the excitement of passing over the efficiency of running.

football, is was and always will be entertainment.
it is a shame that they feel compelled to change the game to broaden the appeal while diminishing the foundation of what makes the game great.
and no I am noit talking about violence.
It is the diminished gameplan and strategy and now being presented with something that looking more and more, like an all pass, flag football league.

The game-plans are broader than they ever were before. Zam, in the glory days of football, throwing the ball 20 times in a game was considered a lot. MLB's covering anyone was a joke and tight ends only blocked. IF you want to criticize the game because it's not as physical that is fine. However, the notion that the game is simpler does not stand up to reason.

Think of it this way, all the running plays that ever existed are still used. Not only are there new/newer passing plays, but who those plays are being executed by now is radically different. Tight ends run routes, actual routes right now. Slot WR's can actually take over a game. Those are relatively new occurrences in the game of football. BEcause of this, defenses have to change to account for that.

I didnt mean to imply the game was simpler, what I was trying to express is that it is now easier/ simpler for the casual observer to follow. Largely due to the PASSING !
they see the QB, they see the ball in the air and they see the results of the pass attempt.
the hype and promotion is always around QBs, WR and sacks.
stuff any casual observer can recognise.

We're still a better team than the Ravens or Giants IMO. I'm still just not seeing 9-7. Our offense is going to be too explosive to have that kind of record. We didn't have good RBs last year either and managed to go 13-3 and put up 30 a game, and now we have Welker and the possible emergence of JT.

09-03-2013, 06:41 PM
Note: The following educated guesses are just that. Once upon a time I picked next years SB winner as this years was crowned four straight times (and came One Yard Short of a fifth,) but those days are gone and my preseason predictions have been badly off for a while now. I blame increased free agency and the rise of sandlot pro flag football (because mistakes are NEVER my fault. ;))

Week 1 (Thursday, Sept. 5): Ravens at Broncos, 8:30 p.m.
W As noted elsewhere, age and FA left many holes in the Ravens D; the draft and FA filled some, but not enough, IMHO, and the Ravens without a dominant D have always been disastrous. Sure, we have weaknesses: Losing Doom to them is obviously a big net negative, plus a gimpy Champ, pachwork offensive line, rookie safety next to Moore and Millers absence won't help. Yet unless our line is awful and/or their D excellent we have the passing firepower to blow them out with even average play from our backs. It was hard enough to believe Flacco could win a road shootout with Manning once; two in a row is unthinkable.

Week 2 (Sunday, Sept. 15): Broncos at Giants, 4:25 p.m.
L Could be interesting, and again come down to whether their D and our offensive line are for real. We have two big tests right out of the gate, and I feel better about the first than the second.

Week 3 (Sunday, Sept. 23): Raiders at Broncos, 8:40 p.m.
W Davis is gone, but his perennial damage was sufficiently epic I don't think Oakland is there yet. Familiarity always adds uncertanity to divisional games, but if we lose this one it will be a big fluke.

Week 4 (Sunday, Sept. 29): Eagles at Broncos, 4:25 p.m.
W The 2012 NFCE title went down to the final gun and included every team but Philly; the causes for that go far deeper than Michael Vick, and Chip Kelly won't have removed the last one by months end.

Week 5 (Sunday, Oct. 6): Broncos at Cowboys, 4:25 p.m.
W Dallas is as loaded as always with offensive talent, but still have Romo and an owner too big a fan to permit discipline. Their D has a new base and DC, plus less talent. Always dangerous, but I like us.

Week 6 (Sunday, Oct. 13): Jaguars at Broncos, 4:05
W The over/under on this one may be more than the line.

Week 7 (Sunday, Oct. 20): Broncos at Colts, 8:30 p.m.
W VERY interesting, as much for backstory as talent and playoff implications. The Colts D is better than under Manning, but the offense worse, even if Luck avoids the dreaded sophomore slump. They're good, but we're better, and should win, though it's probably one of our toughest games at a stadium only one of our players has ever liked.

Week 8 (Sunday, Oct. 27): Redskins at Broncos, 4:25 p.m.
W This one'll show how versatile our D is but, as above, on paper we're better than this good team. Shannys D is better (but his offense worse) he had in Denver, but the QBs coach gameplan for Manning is prayer.

Week 9 Bye
I'll go out on a limb and say we don't lose this one. ;)

Week 10 (Sunday, Nov. 10): Broncos at Chargers, 4:25 p.m.
W Standard divisional game caveat, and it's on the road, but we're the class of the AFCW.

Week 11 (Sunday, Nov. 17): Chiefs at Broncos, 4:05 p.m.
W Ibid.

Week 12 (Sunday, Nov. 24): Broncos at Patriots, 8:30 p.m.
L Manning vs. Brady is usually more fun for the latter, especially at home. He and their front seven are still great, their backs and secondary still suck; the big change is the Bionic Gronk may be their best receiver. We'll still need our A game.

Week 13 (Sunday, Dec. 1): Broncos at Chiefs, 1 p.m.
W Standard divisional game caveat, with the additional one that we're typically flat at Arrowhead. I'm among those who consider KC the SECOND best AFCW team; this could be our toughest divisional game.

Week 14 (Sunday, Dec. 8): Titans at Broncos, 4:05 p.m.
W Bud Adams. 'Nuff said.

Week 15 (Thursday, Dec. 12): Chargers at Broncos, 8:25 p.m.
W The Post Turner Era may be well underway by this point, but otherwise the Bolts chances are no better in Denver than in San Diego.

Week 16 (Sunday, Dec. 22): Broncos at Texans, 1 p.m.
L Comes down to our line and Schaub, IMHO. Okay, the consensus on Joe Mays is well established, but otherwise that D is SOLID if healthy; combined with Foster and the line Schaubs main job is "don't lose."

Week 17 (Sunday, Dec. 29): Broncos at Raiders, 4:25 p.m.
W Standard divisional game caveat. On that note and our final game: Last year people wondered the last time an AFCW team swept the division, but the last time it happened TWICE IN A ROW? Never.

I can expect a loss weeks # 2, 12 nd 16.
Another 13-3 season.
Sounds right, except I expect at least one divisional loss (most likely in Arrowhead,) so 12-4. Realistically, since all projected losses should be competitive but we could blow a gimme, 12±1 wins.

I really dont care too much how our regular schedule ends up, as long as we win all of our play-off games.
Wholeheartedly agreed. I wouldn't care if we went 0-16 in the REGULAR season if we somehow managed to win a Super Bowl anyway.

Heh, didn't realize I already did this a few months ago; apparently Millers suspension made us a game better. I still wouldn't be surprised if we lost two divisional games; those are more of a crap shoot, because divisional foes get to know each others rosters, coaches and stadiums VERY well. Last time Chokeland won a SB I think a losing Denver team swept them, and the last time Dallas won Washington did the same.

I think 11-5 is about right for us. For all the new bright spots on offense: Welker, Vasquez, J Thomas, Ball, etc. I think we're worse on defense.

I don't think our starting defense notched a single sack in the preseason. Our pass rush, especially without Miller, is anemic and is unproven. Im predicting that we won't be top 10 this year. The offense will have to carry this team this year. We have plenty of offensive firepower and we'll need it.

I know I know you can cover some of those deficiencies with exotic blitz packages but at the end of the day there's a reason in a passing league that the Giants have won Super Bowls recently. It's having big, strong athletic ends who can get to the passer. And we all remember how the exotic blitzes workout out with Coyer. I really had hoped that Q would be ready to play this year as a situational pass rusher. If not we have to hope that Shaun can produce at a higher rate than he ever has because Jackson, Wolfe and Ayers don't inspire a ton of fear in the hearts of offensive line coaches.

I think you're really sleeping on Wolfe. Also, I think Phillips isn't going to need to beat out his career best sack total. I want to believe in Wolfe. I mean I posted an article this year comparing Wolfe to Watt from and athletic and rookie year stat standpoint, but I just worry whether he can create by himself. I allso really believe Phillips is going to have to step up because there just aren't any other natural pass rushers on the roster with Von out.
