Despite their top-5 ranking defensively last year, Champ says the Broncos defense only fulfilled one preseason goal.

I don't like the statement that it didn't "affect him as much as people think." I hope he just means that it didn't get him down as much as motivated him. I hope to hell if affected him a lot and it's something that he uses for next year. If it didn't eat at him for a long time then he's in the wrong business.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – At this point last year, Peyton Manning was focused on getting himself ready to play his first NFL game in more than a year.

Now, Manning is far enough along in his rehab that he can spend more time working on his on-field chemistry and timing with the Broncos receivers. Last offseason, he was just getting back on the field himself.

After resting his arm for a few months after the season ended, Manning threw to Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker at Duke University last week.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The business side of the NFL.

Players and coaches have come to know it's the aspect of the game that they cannot control.

"I don’t know that business is my favorite part or anybody else’s favorite part, but it’s that part of football and it usually occurs in the offseason," Head Coach John Fox said at March's owners meetings.

This offseason, it reared its ugly head when the team was forced to release defensive end Elvis Dumervil due to a missed deadline.

Though the team made numerous efforts to re-sign the three-time Pro Bowler, Dumervil eventually signed with the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent.

Should affect him the same amount of time it should affect Bailey for a while that his play throughout the course of the game single handily kept Baltimore in it, and it should affect Manning that his play late in the game and OT probably directed resulted in the loss.

It all sucks, but what do you do. Gotta move on.

I don't disagree with this. He has to move on, as they all do, but I sure hope it bothered him as much as it would have bothered me. I'm over it now, but it took me a while and I didn't even have anything to do with the play.

It shouldn't affect Rahim at all. He should learn by it and move on. As Champ
said, one play doesn't define a player

I think "throughout the course of the game" is pretty much an exaggeration.
Champ had a relatively bad first half of the game, but he literally shut down his
receivers in the second half.

And Manning's play late in the game was sterling. He scored what should have
been the winning TD in regulation. That INT in OT should never have had to
happen. So in regulation, he passed for 290 yds, 3 TDs, and 1 INT, and the
INT was right on the money -- it wasn't his fault the officials missed the fact
that the defender was holding down one of Decker's arms while Decker tried
to get the pass with the other one.

I guess most would conclude that the loss fell on Rahim Moore, but also the defensive play call. I mean where the hell was Champ on that play? burned again, that's where he was. it may be hard to single out one individual, but regardless who's fault it was, yoiu just don't let the shit happen there.

oh well, i'm sure he went through the proper emotional cycle to be better this year. gotta move on.

Rahim and Champ were only integral parts of an overall team failure on the play in
question. There is much, much more than meets the eye there. If one is really
