View Full Version : Really wierd end to Cleveland game

With time expiring, Cleveland kicked a 51 yard field goal that was ruled no good. Then the refs huddled and talked about it.

The ball it one upright, crossed the cross bar and then hit the curved support BEHIND the crossbar, then bounced up and FORWARD and landed in the endzone.

The Ref said he was going to review it, but that is not reviewable, so I am assuming the replay judge said he couldn't, but probably confirmed via the headset what the umps thought happened, and that is that the kick was good, and then bounced BACK over the crossbar to land short.

In the end it was a right call, even though it might have cost me my office pool, as I was 9-1 in the early games prior to that, and Cleveland is driving for the winning FG in OT.

You don't need to tell me about the game.

I know (and the Browns did win)

CR, I'm not telling 'you'. I wouldn't waste my time telling 'you, because I know that if I did, I would just get some type of condescending, know-it-all remark like above.

I was sharing the wierd ending with those that hadn't seen it.

You dont have to tell me what happened. They had a live look in on CBS and I saw it all with my own eyes.

So *pats myself on the back for knowing everything*

But that was one of the strangest things I've seen

At least they got the call right.

'After non-review, the field goal is good'

Yea, the ref was even careful with his wording. Whether or not he watched it on the jumbotron screen (or whatever they call them now) or on the replay gadget, he was careful to not say, "after reviewing the play", since it is non-reviewable.

He waled back from the replay gadget and got back with the umps and then said, something like, "after discussing the play, the field goal crossed the cross bar, hit the extension and bounced back over....The field goal is good."

I did not mean my statement in a bad way.

I meant it to be more like

"You don't have to tell me twice"

I went from wanting a new kicker in the draft to elatement through the span of this game.

Yep, imagine what it would have been like if they got it wrong.....

Ok, sorry if I took your condescending looking comment the wrong way. Since I had only posted once on the subject, I didn't realize what you meant.

Anyway, glad your team came through for you.

 It would have been wierd.
Part of me wanted it to get reversed since I've never seen that before.

I'm just mad that I got that one wrong on my pickems. :fight:

And I just realized almost every team who won was favored. :coffee:

That is very strange. I would think it would be the same principle as a TD.
Once the ball breaks the plane, that's it, no matter what happens
thereafter.

Damn, if that had happend at an Italian soccer match, there'd have been bulls heads and mopeds been thrown from the upper stands

Yep, and in the end, that is what was ruled. Once it completely crossed the cross bar (which it clearly did), then the field goal was good no matter where it wound up.

I hope that the city of Cleveland never wins another Championship ever again. Watching Lebron choke and watching the Indians do the same made me ecstatic. I almost hope the Browns make the playoffs so I can watch them get destroyed.

Jay and King, I had to edit your posts because they were reported (and not
by whom you might not think, BTW). By insulting fans anywhere, you are
taking the chance of offending posters here. Let's try not to do that.

I just wanted to make sure you mods are doing your job.

By the way: I give you an A Plus. You have been on top of your game catching my posts. :salute:

I cant sneak anything by you.

When my daughter was 14, I came around the side of the house and caught
her smoking. I saw where she hid her smokes and everything.

She just looked at me, put out her cig, and said,

"I can't get away with a damn thing!"

I keep thinking the smoking age is about 16 because of people now.

And I keep hearing rumors about your age and that your seenile or whatever but your eyes seem to be just fine.

It probably happened because it is about Cleveland football. You know things rareely go well when it comes to Cleveland football....

Twice in one day. Now we had a kick in the NE/Buff game go through and hit the camera and bounce back out on the field. I have actually seen this happen before, but never the earlier one in the Cleveland game.

Wierd kicking day.

I was watching Tned and it kinda reminded me
of a hockey goal where the person slaps the puck
into the net and it comes out so fast and appeared to not
go it with the richocet.

I lost the game as I picked Balt

Billick blew it earlier in the 4th when he had 3rd and 1 and
threw an incomplete pass with Boller and they kicked
their lead fg witn 35 sec or so...if he ran it, cleveland
might not have had time for the unbelieveable finish
Billick must have learned his clock management
from Herm Edwards

I give full credit to Cleveland to fight back and
win. Great job by Anderson to gut it out. :salute:

Bah, I hope that entire team gets the flu for the rest of the year. What is awesome is going to be the debate and QB controversy at the end of the year.

King I do not like certain teams like Balt
but I am trying to win a pool so
I have to put an allegance aside
to try to win $$$

make sense?

and in Cleveland Anderson has won the job in my mind
Crennel would be going backwards if he
did otherwise IMO

If they dont get the wildcard then this will be an insane chokejob.

Thier schedule is nothing but winnable games left.

I wouldn't want to face them in the playoffs though.
I'm sure thier O would put 40 on us. :(
