Lloyd was the first player I thought of when I read the article.

From the above article:

Freeman based the information on several interviews with current and former NFL players, but the reporter doesn't know who the player is.

The players that the article theorizes about are divided into in 2 categories:

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo and Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe have spoken loudly in support of gay marriage throughout the last year. New York Giants owner Steve Tisch, NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith and players like Scott Fujita, Scott Shanle, D'Qwell Jackson and Eric Winston are among those who supported a brief filed to the U.S. Supreme Court related to Proposition 8 in California.

1) If everyone celebrity that have taken similar stands were gay, then 99.99% of Hollywood & media personalities are gay.
2) Tom Brady is not mentioned anywhere in this article.
3) If homosexuals want to convenience me that their lifestyle is normal, they should act normal. Instead of holding a press conference to declare their sexual orientation, they should simply invite their lover to some social event & introduce them as such. That way, those who actually care to dig into the personal lives of strangers can know all about it. As for me, I don't care who is dating/marrying who unless they are my friends or related to me will invite me to their wedding if it ever comes to past.

The question is who cares? You either want equality or you want to make a spectacle of yourself, as if to pop out of a box and say, "Ta da!!!"

Seriously? Who cares? Just about everyone, that's why it hasn't happened before. NO ONE has come out, publicly, while playing and admitted to being gay. It will be met with EXTREME ridicule, EXTREME criticism, and EXTREME lash back to that individual player. The fans will be ruthless, the media will be opinionated, and the players would be judgemental. Fellow teammates would be stuck in a spot, family members will become targets, and private lives will be demoralized.

The point of "why do this then"... would be the same reasoning behind why Jacky Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball.... SOMEONE has to finally take that step. Whomever this player is, if there is one, would have to be EXTREMELY mentally tough. This would have to be someone (imo) that would have already had success in the NFL. They have to feel secure enough with what they have accomplished in the NFL so that the homophobes and homo-haters can't use that as more ammunition.

IF there truly is a player that would be willing to "come out of the closet" while on a football team, publicly, they would be the very first that would be willing to take this land-fall upon their shoulders.

The closet is a good thing. I feel bad for the players that have to accept this.

If you are gay then why do you need to publicly announce a coming out party?

So people are less shocked when you're caught blowing dudes at a rest area.

To try and legitimize your perverse ways.
