Aight guys, I've been playing fantasy football since I was 13ish, and I've been in the same money league with the same people now for 3 years and I'm going on my 4th year with these guys. Its a NON-keeper league, 12 teams, but each year the draft goes based on how you finish the year before. So if you win it all, you get the 12th pick and the worst team gets the 1st pick the next year.

Well, This year I have the 7th overall pick and I'm a bit puzzled.
I hate having picks right in the middle. But every year, I usually draft a RB in the 1st round and then I get 2 WR's and work from there. That stretegy usually works best for me.

But this year I'm wondering on what I should do. By the time my pick rolls around Some RB's that might be available will be Portis, Gore, LT, Steven Jackson.. and maybe more ... But I don't want to grab a RB just to grab one and fit in.

This year I'm thinking about Grabbing Larry Fitzerald with my #1 pick that way I can get my elite WR and so no one gets a top RB and Top WR as well.

THEN..... I'm thinking about with my #2 pick ( If hes available) is to grab Randy Moss. And get 2 Elite WR's right off the bat.. And IF Tom Brady is available with my 3rd pick to grab him.

So my picks will be

Larry, Randy, Brady. With my top 3.

And then go for RB's later. Maybe get a Derrick Ward, Moreno, McFadden, or other rookies that might make an impact.

Every year I tend to get good late round RB's. Last year I got Forte and Chris Johnson in the later rounds. The year before I got Marshawn Lynch. The year before that I got Maurice Jones Drew. All those guys had pretty good Rookie seasons.. So I've made a habit of finding late round RB gems.

But chances are I wont end up with all 3 picks that I want.

But whats your guy's opinions? Is that a safe strategy to try? Is it worth a shot?

Just wondering what everyones opinions are. :salute:

What are your starting spots?

QB, RB, RB, Flex, WR, WR, TE, D, K?

and how do you score?

you could go if you wanted

fitz
moss
QB-brady,brees,manning (if they are there- i doubt it but maybe)
dmac,fwp,addai,lenwhale
wells,moreno,lenwhale,ward
driver,berian,walter,
rb,rb,rb,rb,

That should be pretty close to what you can expect. It wouldnt be my first choice of draft strategy, but with enough fine tuning and tweaking during the draft you can make a great team out of that.

Its true that it is a weak wr draft his year. But i dont buy into the wr hype that much. A solid RB should almost always out produce a top 10 wr.

oh.. True... Another Reason that I like to go for 2 Elite WR's early on is because it goes:

QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, D, K.

We start 3 WR's and only 2 RB's. So I don't need to draft RB's early on. I can go against the grain because after the top 10 or so WR's theres a big drop off IMO. And plus Rookie RB's have fresh young legs and can still get me 1500 yards and 10 plus TD's. Instead of gambling on young WR's.

And yea U29. A solid RB is always good to have. But with having the 7th pick, I don't want to just get a RB just to get one. I can probably get a Late RB that will be pretty solid for me.

And yea, that strategy is sort of what I'm going for. Although I'll probably try to get a TE fairly early. Since after like the 1st 5 TE's go, you don't end up with much talent.

But the draft is a week from this Sunday. So It will be interesting. I just hate having a pick right in the middle. Its tough. :fight:

First off, love the draft rules (order based on finish from year before). I tried to get my money league to do that this year but no go (might have been because I finished dead last)...anyway..

Middle of the pack sucks for drafting I think, especially given all the RBBC we'll see this year, no hands-down primary runners save for a few teams who have studs (Peterson, Forte, Gore, Tomlinson...etc) Those guys will most likely be gone by the time you get to draft... You might b eon the right track going after a stud WR or even a top QB, but don't rule out the effectiveness of a good RB either. They score the most points typically...even a lower RB. The WR and QB you are targeting may be there in the 2nd rd also...

I actually took Brady in the 2nd round this year, first time I've ever taken a QB that early based solely off the fact that most stud RB's were gone. Seems like the pool isn't as deep as it has been in recent years, in any position....

Long time, no talk Reid. :elefant:

But yea man. I like the way we draft as well. Based on the year before. It makes it fun. But yea, I'm thinking that Gore and LT will both be available with my pick though. Maybe not though. But if they are, I'm not sure if I want to grab 1 of them. The 2 RB's that I'm highest on right now though is Steven Jackson and Frank Gore. But I'm still not sure about it.

I really want to just get Larry Fitzerald with my number 1 pick and throw some people off guard. Because I have a feeling that he won't be available by the time of my next pick And I also like to throw peoples strategies off. :elefant: .. I not only plan on who I want but I try to mess up other peoples drafts as well. I get tricky.

And yea, I've never been 1 to draft a QB high as well. Usually I draft a QB in round 4 or 5 or later. Hell, Last year my QB's were a joke. The 1st 8 weeks of the season I had a different QB each week. I was trying new things.

I ended up with Shaun Hill and Tyler Thigpen though. Both teams were down a lot so they were nonstop passing and getting meaningless TD's. That was actually fun.

But Thanks for the imput and I agree.. This years draft doesn't seem like theres much talent. I'm just stoked for football.

If you do take Larry Fitz, I'd imagine that would throw a few people into a panic and force them to take a top WR earlier than they thought, which would pretty much assure you that you pick up a fairly respectable RB later.

Yea, that is true. People might panic that I took him so early and then there might be 4 more WR's or so taken by the time I pick again. It'd be fun to throw people off though. :elefant: This year just seems so wierd to me for fantasy. I'm lost this year. :fight:

You can do a mock draft at CBS sportsline. As many times as you like. Try your strategy there a few times and see how it turns out. I did it a couple times, drafted WRs early, and the only thing i was'nt to thrilled with was my bench.
